I've never heard of Aldi supermarkets. Are they one of those chains that only sells generic products, no name brands?

I have a friend that just informed me that At ALDI's you also bring your own bags or boxes and, in addition, unload your cart on the conveyor belt and then the checkout person scans each item, you put your groceries in your bags. Usually only 2-3 workers in the store at a given time keeps product costs low. Milk runs $2-$3 per gallon. Ken Sweet

We have a Aldis here, it always seems busy. Very clean, high volume, limited selection, low labor setup.

We've had Aldi's here for 25 - 30 years. They are always busy. They built new stores at each end of town in recent years. Not much of a selection but their prices are very good. There was an Aldi's where my in-laws lived in SC too.
We also have an Ultra Foods. It's a big grocery store with a wide variety of name brands. Prices are good. Bag your own groceries there too.

We have a major chain here, WINCO Foods, Based out of Boise ID, that will take debit, but not credit cards. Cost of processing each transaction is higher for the merchant with credit than debit, even though it is run through the same machine.

I have a dollar general within 3 miles of my house that is located on the same corner with Walgreen's, CVS, and Food Lion...
Within another 3 miles we have an IGA grocery store and hardware that encompasses 60,000 sq. ft. that is locally owned...
On top of that we have 5 Wal Marts within a 20 mile radius and multiple dollar trees, dollar stores, family dollar, ect...
I live in the country but but the county is highly industrialized...
4th largest metro area in the state...
Very convenient...
Only 1 Northern Tool though...

Update: Our Dollar General Store yesterday. I just stopped by the new Dollar Store in Canmer, Ky. and was very impressed with the quality, variety, prices and Friendly staff. I had no intentions of buying anything when I went in, just gonna check things out. I wound up buying $45 worth of merchandise for less than the same products would have cost me at Walmart. Very pleased with my purchases. Ken Sweet

We have 5 stores is town of 25,000 population. 4 (1 on each major road into town, and 1 main "Food Market" in center of town. Some of the the things I've found for good savings over Wally-world are cleaning supplies (bleach, dish soap, spray cleaners, brooms, & mops), toilet paper, paper towels, milk, bread, cookies and snacks. They don't have the large varitey as Walmart but they get the job done. I hope they can keep gowing and put a little competion to Walmart, maybe even expand to include some fresh produce & meat.
On a side note: we also have a couple "Dollar Trees" and used to have an "Everythings a Dollar" but it closed. Wife commented yesterday why it closed - simple reason, ther is nothing you can buy for just $1 anymore.

I was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of "Name Brand" products they carry along with their house brands. We did get a store with a big food section. I am sure that will save a lot my gas, not having to run to the big city for a gallon of milk or loaf of bread. Ken sweet
