...Besides China will gladly buy the gas that you do not buy on the 15th.

Yes, but, the way shipping and the delivery method is set up like clockwork, everything HAS to keep working like it is, the minute you throw a bug in the "system" ( not buying on the 15th ) , things get screwed up.

The oil companies must keep the flow of the delivery network going like it is or things get backed up. Tanks on shore ( ours or China's ) get filled to capacity, then the ships that are already filled have to wait off shore, and start stacking up. When the ships stack up they can't go back for more, and when they can't go back for more - you guessed it they have to shut down refineries because they have no place to put it.

So yes China will take it, but NO ONE had an infinite amount of holding tanks to take "all" the oil pumped.

Maybe enough people don't buy on the 15th, and we send them a small message, then next year or next month we don't buy on the 15th, 16 th, and 17th - to give them an even louder message.

I think Citco ( Hugo Chavez ) has gotten a message loud and clear from us and his Citco stations are taking a hit.

I'm optimistic, and just the fact that hopefully enough people do this will send a wake up call.

In the 70's they said we had a shortage of sugar, we all stopped eating sugar, that was the last time you heard of a sugar shortage. Remember the beef shortage, we stopped eating beef. In recent months take the Toyota Prius the demand was high, and peopled waited 6 & 8 months for a car and paid 5k more than sticker - today Toyota is giving 2k incentives and advertising we have all the Priuses you want special sale etc.etc., and selling below sticker.

It's simple supply and demand if the demand is not there they supply goes WAY up, and the price comes way down.

If we have a serious sit down with the people we know, and they have a sit down with the people they know ....Who knows?

reinforcing your point...remember when the government busted several oil companies for overcharging and the price dropped almost $.40 overnight and STAYED that way for a couple months? then as time went on they eeked up the price to where it was, then surpassed it greatly. my point is, we have not used so much oil in the past year that prices have had to go up almost $.50 compared to where they were last year. if this is true, then provide some factual data, let the people see just how much we're using compared to the estimated petroleum thats left.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Bill

Afternoon Bill,

Just garbage, people will either fill up before or after the 15th. Actually reducing our consumption is the answer.
Me... I will fill up when I need to.

Here's a thoughtful article that discusses economic growth, fuel prices, and China's emerging competition for the energy supply we presently assume is 'ours'. It's an excerpt from Bill McKibben's new book, Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future.

I don't agree with all the authors conclusions but I like his wide-ranging survey of the present and what sort of future it might bring. Feel free to forcast a different future! It's a longwinded article, but he has a lot to say. Here are a few excerpts:

Even though the economy continues to grow, most of us are no longer getting wealthier. The average wage in the United States is less now, in real dollars, than it was 30 years ago. Even for those with college degrees, and though productivity was growing faster than it had for decades, between 2000 and 2004 earnings fell 5.2 percent when adjusted for inflation

the past three years have seen a spate of reports and books and documentaries suggesting that humanity may have neared or passed its oil peak -- that is, the point at which those pools of primeval plankton are half used up, where each new year brings us closer to the bottom of the barrel. The major oil companies report that they can't find enough new wells most years to offset the depletion in the old ones; rumors circulate that the giant Saudi fields are dwindling faster than expected; and, of course, all this is reflected in the cost of oil.

Given current rates of growth in the Chinese economy, the 1.3 billion residents of that nation alone will, by 2031, be about as rich as we are.

If they then eat meat, milk, and eggs at the rate that we do, calculates ecostatistician Lester Brown, they will consume 1,352 million tons of grain each year -- equal to two-thirds of the world's entire 2004 grain harvest. They will use 99 million barrels of oil a day, 15 million more than the entire world consumes at present. They will use more steel than all the West combined, double the world's production of paper, and drive 1.1 billion cars -- 1.5 times as many as the current world total. And that's just China; by then, India will have a bigger population, and its economy is growing almost as fast. And then there's the rest of the world.

According to the government's most recent agricultural census, smaller farms produce far more food per acre, whether you measure in tons, calories, or dollars. In the process, they use land, water, and oil much more efficiently; if they have animals, the manure is a gift, not a threat to public health. To feed the world, we may actually need lots more small farms.

With the exception of insects, most creatures are not meant to live in high densities. Nature repeatedly shows us this by some new disease or famine. I am betting on a major pandemic sometime in the not too distant future. This has happened repeatedly throughout history. I personally don't think it can be avoided.

So, should I pity the big chain convience store when they loose money for a day, I think not.
Let's see. Instead of making $10,000 on Monday and $10,000 on Tuesday, they will make $20,000 on Tuesday. Yep, that'll teach 'em.

Whining about gas prices is a recurring topic on TBN. Happens every spring and every fall. It also happens right after the trilateral commission meets and the black helicopters get airborne.

I looked up APATHY in the dictionary, and look what I found...

Then I looked up CLAIRVOYANT and look what I found...

Here gentlemen is the real reason oil companies jerk us around. They know that most people have either one of these attitudes, so they can just pull our strings, and we SHEEPLE ( not spelled wrong ) just say thank you sir, may I have another.

Seriously guys, what would it hurt to not buy on the 15th - even if we're the only 20 people on the planet that don't buy on the 15th.
