I thought you would have been talking about gas cans LOL. As an IT dude since Windows 2.0 Ive learned that this is the norm in the tech world fo 25 plus years. As normal as breathing air that is. Be careful-while updates for more\better options are not a necessity, security updates are.

Going back to the gas cans, I curse the engineers who designed the nozzles every time I fill up with it. Do they even try their own designs?

I've been in the software business for 35 years. As we tell people - "I just said it was an upgrade, I didn't say it was better."

Job security. If we don't break ... errr... change stuff today, what will we do tomorrow for pay?

Short answer, "NO!"
I don't even mess around with them anymore. I use a "shaker" siphon hose to fill my fuel tank; put the can in the tractor bucket, raise it above the filler nozzle, and let gravity do it's job. For my saw I keep a gallon can about half full, and take the stupid nozzle off. I can usually do it without spilling much.

What really fries my egg though is that the mandated ethanol in the fuel destroys the mandated fancy nozzle on my over priced can; so every few years I have to replace them.

I've looked at those. How long does that fancy spout last before it breaks, or the orings start leaking?

out of the 8, 1 leaked which was used for 2 cycle fuel. the other 7 some are over 10 years with the original nozzle.

I apply this to items on store shelves also. I get used to say, an orange jug with blue label when scanning shelves. Then they improve them...particularly during the holidays. I am sure I have switched brands more than once due to hunting frustrations.

My 10yo can needs to be replaced. Loved the nozzle on that one. Tip it over and then squeeze a handle to get it to start pouring.

The seem split on top of the grab handle. At least it held together long enough to get home and empty most of it into the zero turn.

I'll take the nozzle with me and try the cans at the store till I find one it will fit on.
