So here is the delima, I have a John Deere 4510 with a 460 loader. It has been my dream machine, I hit a homerun and it only had 170 hours when I purchased it.
Issue is I have 1.33 acres, lol. Now before you jump on me I use it for side work, bushog work (not much), a good deal of firewood and tree work, along with some chipping. The tree work is where it makes it makes´ money and shines. The 460 loader lifts everything easily well above my dump trailer sides and deck over.

Problem is I like the size of the frame size down for my lot. I have a 4310 but the 420 loader is a bit light and short for my dump trailer. I had a newer 3032e but the 305 loader was very anemic.

So in my head a 4410 with a 430 loader would be a perfect compromise. I know for most of you the 4400 series vs the 4500 series is not a big deal and while I love my 4510 it is a much larger machine.

That said I have the truck and trailer to haul my 4510 no problem, so at the end of the day is bigger better having all the capabilities you could ever need?

I really like the frame size down for yard work but hate the weak loaders. That 305 is terrible.

I’m not super brand specific. I want the highest lift height, highest break out and lift capacity, in a tractor that’s not as big as my 4510. That said it’s so good maybe I should just get R4 tires vs my R1 and run it all over my yard, lol.

My other must is it must have at minimum 30 PTO hp...

With the loader and loaded tires R1, I’m guesstimating it’s 5000lbs.

The 4510 before widening out the tires and new hood and side panels. Big thumbs up from the boy!

From left to right, 4510, 4310, 3032e. Thats ´ at full height and a bit deceiving as Im on the right and the grade slopes from R-L. The 4510 is much higher.

Truck and trailer can handle her no problem.

Sorry for the novel, I am bored and the kids are watching a movie. Haha.

What exactly is it you're looking for opinions on? Can only keep one and looking for opinions? Or can you keep a small compact for yard maintenance and the larger tractor for your jobs?

Personally if you run a business using the 4510 and it's the best size for what you do keep it. But if you can only have one and need one to work around the house and run your business then that opens up alot of options.

Needing to understand what you are trying to accomplish here to better understand how to reply to your question.

If you have the 4310 already with 420 loader why don't you just keep your eye out locally for a dealer that is selling a 4200-4400 with a 430 loader and offer to do a one for one swap with a little cash involved?

The hp between a 4300 to a 4400 is only 5 hp. While I know in these smaller tractors 5 hp is noticeable but your mainly looking for loader capacity primarily and PTO hp secondly.

I have a 4310 with 420 loader and the only time I had any issues was when I was moving round bales of haylage with it. It could lift them only about 3 feet before the relief kicked in. Dry rounds I have no problem but boy that added moisture in the haylage really added some weight.

If it were me I'd keep the 4510 and just keep my eye out for a 430 loader for the 4310 for sale someplace locally.

Sorry I did not clarify, I can not keep two. I am a Full time Firefighter and only use the tractor on the side. Sometimes I have side work sometimes I do not. Most of my side work is dropping and removing trees, some chipping and some land clearing. I took on a larger job pulling a lot of timber off a piece of property and decided to purchase my 4510 to help out (in the process of selling the 4310).The 4510 can lift larger timber onto my deck over and into my dump trailer. I’m contemplating possibly selling the 4510 and downsizing after that job. Problem is while only a few more HP it has a huge increase in lift capacity and height.
Mainly wondering if another manufacturer makes a little smaller tractor with the larger lift capacity. I understand you need size and weight to lift so it may not be an option, but it is a big jump between the two.

You have the tractor you need for the side work, the truck and trailer to pull it. I'd stop there. If you need a machine for yard work at home, get a little lawn tractor. Buy a used one on CL and save a fortune. It will probably be less that the trade in loss that you'll have going to another tractor.

One thing to keep in mind is that the cheapo lawn tractors often cut grass pretty well and have bagger options. That one item I missed on my Kubota purchase.

Not to mention the benefits of owning the tractor you want and need for your side business. The only reason I can see to get rid of your 4510 is to alleviate any financial burden due to payments.

It’s paid for, it just is pretty stupid big for 1.3 acres. That said it has the lift and power to do everything I need and while I’d like a little lighter and smaller machine for my postage stamp I need the larger machine for side work. I was hoping a manufacturer I wasn’t familure with made kind of an in between machine but it seems like for the lift height I require and the weight I need it requires the larger frame. No way to get around it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I am doing some Bamboo removal at my place, it is in a tight spot near all my firewood so I tried with my 4310. I quickly switched out to my 4510 and loaded the rest. Sure I could have taken more trips, but once I drop the stake pocket uprights in and load her heavy the 4510 just shines.2C492139-AA03-4584-A899-D91CAEA49F46.jpeg

Funny part is once I got to the composting dump and pushed it all off I was politely asked to leave and not return with anything over 4? I would die of old age trying to cut this all down to 4 sections. I am on plan F with this darn Bamboo. It is becoming my new nemesis.
