Have you used it in anger yet? Just wondering how it faired when towed by chain with the concrete weights up front? I found with mine that I had to put the weight 2/3rds back on the pallet to prevent the front edge from digging in like an anchor. Like a surfing action on the soil, keep your bow up! Helps the pallet to glide along the surface of the soil...#

Hanging it off the 3pt is a great idea. gives you better control.

With my luck within the first 20 feet or so the drag would find a buried unharvested rock and all I'd be pulling is the bottom slat of the pallet!

1*It wasn't as easy as it looks.
Had to figure out how to keep it from tipping off the two 3 point hitch arms.
Another challenge was getting the tow chains the right length.To long and you back the rear wheels over the chains or set the drag down on top of them when lowering the drag to the ground.To short and you can't pull the tractor forward enough to back the arms under the drag to lift it or to pull them out from under it after lowering the drag.
2* worked ok
3*I had to put the blocks up front as they are what prevents the drag from tipping off the 3 point arms.
4*The chains are down near the ground on the drag and run up to the tractor hitch which gives it some front upward lift to help keep the bow up.
5*I needed something i could lift up to turn around to go the other way.
The area I used it on was to narrow to just make a loop and go back as i would be pulling the drag over the grass on one side and through the slag on the driveway on the other side.
I didn't want to mess up the lawn or drag slag into the area i was dragging.

It's all in Rod used. For wood you have to use a wood Rod.

So what rod do you use for oak vs pine vs balsa? It's so confusing!

That is not confusing at all John. Just use the same rod as the base wood you are welding.

If you are trying to attach say pine to oak you must use a composite rode made of the two woods in the same ratio as their weight per cubic foot!

If you find some wood that cannot be identified there is "Mystery Rod" available that should do an adequate job!

Welding different woods is much easier than metals like say aluminum to cast iron!

Simple and effective, can't get much better than that. I'm gonna try that myself on my kids trails.

I use weld-wood rods when welding wood parts together.
The nice thing is, they are cheap. You can grow your own,
.

I built one similar once to prepare for some grass seeding. Only difference was I made it twice as wide as it was taking forever at only 3' a pass.

Also, I nailed a row of concrete nails (regular just bent over) into the bottom to help scarify the surface just enough to provide a little loose soil for the seed to take better.
