Drawbar Hook

Have Blue, I like your hook idea. I've reinvented the wheel many times. There is a satisfaction in making your own device from mtl. laying around the place. Also a sure way to keep my purchases in USA.

Thanks, but I didn't really re-invent the wheel. I made it because nothing else would fit my tractor's oddball drawbar configuration. If I can ever find something that has a pin diameter of 1-1-4", width of 1-1/8, and a 1-1/4" throat depth, I'll throw the ugly home-made hook away.

I think that your hook is just fine and it serves the purpose that you made it for. That is all any of the things that we make can do. Thanks for sharing.

Nice project. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Even painted it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
My first thought was why would he make something that is readily available.
I used to think that way all the time. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Now that I am retired. I stop and think. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I have time to make that attachment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Well maybe not this one. I have 2 draw bar grab hooks someplace.

Readily available for YOU maybe, but you don't have a TC35.

And as I said, it was a rainy day, which is usually a total waste for me. Making the adapter was way more fun than watching TV.

Hey bobudu: That's so ugly I'm not sure it's even legal. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I got mine at Tractor Supply. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One thing I found out about it is that it fits perfectly over my step bumper and pins through the trailer ball hole. Obviously, the bumper will be the weak link in that situation. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here is another solution. This stays on my tractor at all times. I found three of these big industrial shackels at various places. very strong. I welded an extra chain hook to this one. Also works with rope.

I really like your soultion. I almost went with a similar solution. If I could have found a big shackel in town at the time, I probably would have.

I was thinking of using a large shackel like yours, but with a bushing to prevent wallowing out the trailer ball hole. (which I may use some day) Instead of welding on a grab hook, I would have ground the shackle down to 1/2" thick so a 3/8 grab hook could be hooked to it. (a 3/8" grab hook's bite is 1/2" wide)

I bet there are 57 different ways to solve this simple problem. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
