Yes the weight of a 3 point implement is what applies the down pressure.
I wasn't aware that the little imported Fords had down pressure on the 3 point.
Well Lou, I learned something today. My Ford 1500 does not have downward pressure. I was dumbfounded to learn that. How wrong I was.

I also am unaware that a Ford 1500 tractor has down pressure on 3 pt draft arms. Some Tractors built by Belarus have 3pt down pressure
Jim, as I mentioned to Lou, I was wrong thinking that mine did. I checked it and was a little surprised.

Can you post a photo of the Grimm #8? I don't see how you can pull any Grimm equipment with a 24hp tractor. I don't think my 50hp tractor could pull any of them. I know there's potato plows and disks but they're for single-row gardening. Even those will need loose soil for 24hp.
When I got my tractor back to the yard, I completely forgot to take a photo of the T25 with the Model 8 tedder on it. I did get a chance to take a photo of it in the Ford 1500. It's basically the same except the color of blue instead of red.

Makes sense. Good to know. I still wonder how to fill a row of potatoes without that downward force. You need to dig in to get enough soil to and cover the row.
You need to till the ground next to the rows if it's too hard for the hiller to dig in. I have that problem here, the ground gets hard after a few rain storms so that it's impossible to hill a row or even pull weeds.

Oh yeah. I got totally off subject when you mentioned your potato farm. 🥺 I was thinking of the larger Grimm planters and such. My apologies for misreading your post. I'll go along with the others and state you should be pulling that tedder with a fixed drawbar or use the stays as suggested.
