Ditzler Limelight, that name is burned into my brain. I swear when oldtimers has it all choked off I will still be able to see that green and say, "Ditzler Limelight".
I'd wrecked my TR4A. It had been black the way only the British can do black. After many attempts to get the body shop to straighten out the job I finally decided to paint it that gawdawful gorgeous yellow MOPAR had in 1970. A bud's dad shot it. But when I told him the color I wanted he sent me to the dealer to pull the number off from a tag under the hood.
As I was trying to find the paint number on a stone gorgeous yellow 'cuda a sales geek cornered me and asked what I was doing. He told me it was called "Ditzler Limelight" and that was all I needed to tell the painter.
I took him at his word. Man, was I green or what? That's what my little TR4A was cause the painter went down and got some Ditzler Limelight just like I told him.
When I saw it I wanted to cry. Beautiful chrome wheels, neat radial tires, black tonnea cover with the black roll bar, and green like a drunk's vomit.
Painter said I was stuck for at least two months before he could repaint.
I was gonna kill at least three MOPAR salesmen and burn twice as many dealerships.
Then the girls saw it. I think it was about then that I decided I'd rather be lucky than good. The color grew on me, became rather fond even, Ditzler Limelight, till the day I die.

Was that a real 'bird, or just made to look like one? If real, I bet you are sad you got rid of it now. I had a chance to pick one up in almost the same shape in the early 80's. 1.5k then, but I could not come up with the money. Same car now would be over 5 to 10 times the dollars.

wroughtn_harv - Good ol' FJ5 Limelight. I still can't believe people would pay an extra $15 for those "High Impact" Mopar colors back in '70/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Love it or hate it. I agree it does grow on ya. C

Very nice! I just noticed that you are from SE Michigan. I grew up in Novi and spent many a night cruising my hot rod wagon down on Woodward and Gratiot in the early 80's. Sure would like to make it up there for that big cruise one of these days. Man, I could sure go for a good coney!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mike - One of those projects that never got done. The stripe was painted on in 1983 when the car was last painted. I was a bit younger and didn't know then what I know now. Along the lines of the holes I cut in the door panels for stereo speakers/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif. It still sports that 20 year old laquer paint job. A new paint job is on the to do list.

Jeff - As a matter of fact I'm right next to Novi in F.H. Woodward was just dying out in '79 when I got the 'Cuda. Most of my cruisin' was on Telegraph.
The Dream Cruise is an absolutely unbelievable event. I'm sure you've read/heard about it. The one day Saturday event now starts on Monday or Tuesday. They don't call it Hockeytown......er.... the Motor City.........for nothing. C
