Drift outside the cab

Drift meaning Drift HD 170 Stealth camera. I thought this might be an interesting way to mount the video camera so I did it. I had the mic turned down a bit because of the high winds so you might need to turn up the sound a bit. In some parts you can hear the freezing rain hitting the camera. Cheers!

Thanks. Our winter was late coming so I guess it's going to be late leaving. On the bright side, the weather man said that it's supposed to warm up here for a half a day around the middle of August :laughing: Thanks for your comments.

I was watching your front camera video when my wife came by, watched for a moment, and asked why you had the camera? I couldn't say, but she's still curious. So- proof of work? Or, planned future computer link to drive the tractor while you sit in you kitchen, warm and drinking coffee? Whatever, it is pretty neat.

Hey varmint. Seems our winter is starting all over again. Just this morning I had to do it all over again but the sun was just coming up and there wasn't a breeze of wind so I turned on the camera again.
Why the camera on the tractor. Well it really isn't for the tractor. The wife and I will see our 30th anniversary this July so we ended up ordering a special gift for the occasion and the camera was meant for it.

That being said I get allot of folks asking me to put up anything related to tractors so it gives me time to get used to the new camera :thumbsup:

Nice job on the camera. It gives a perfect view of your ploughing, and I particularly liked listening to the clunk as your snow plough angles all the way over left or right. It's easy to see that you've done this job many times and have it down to an efficient and effective routine. I'm sure that anyone using your dumpster (you?) appreciates the way you clean out right up to the box. The collection truck also has very easy access. When you have a really big snow storm, does the snow pile up between the parallel parked vehicles? I can just picture them sitting there with snow up to the roofs. I'm so happy that I live in Texas where plowing is what farmers do in their fields before planting. I am a cold weather wimp.

Yes Roy. The machine spends it;s winters in my shop which happens to be directly across the street from my contracts. Leaving it in the shop means that the machine is always warm and ready to go. We are in a mixed zoning area so there are houses mixed with commercial buildings. I do more than I've shown in the video's but I guess it can be boring enough watching almost 10 minutes of this stuff for some folks. Guess you have to be a true tractor guy to appreciate seeing a machine work Thanks for posting. Paul

Thank you sir. Kind of tough these days snow clearing around here. We had a big thaw the last few weeks here and everyone figured winter was over but I knew the difference. When that happens it means more snow is on the way. The problem with plowing now is there's no frost in the ground and when you come off the pavement the blade digs into the gravel making it a bit of a chore to do. Thankfully everywhere I go is mostly pavement.

I used to operate heavy equipment one time for a living so I know what it's like not to be able to reach something because there's to much snow in front of it and that's why I keep the dumpster dug out. If it makes someone else's life easier then it's worth the effort.

This lot you've seen here is shared with some National Defense vehicles. Those guys park everywhere I just put the snow where it will fit and when everyone returns to work they get all the vehicles moved to the upper part of the lot and I do a forensic push :laughing:

As for winter. I would truly miss it if we didn't have it. I've been down to LA a few times in October and thought I would die with the heat and the locals tell me that's the cold time of the year :confused2: If the snow stops here I'm moving North Thanks for your comments. :thumbsup:

Just go to Goose Bay. I remember landing there in August of '83 while coming back from Somalia in the Marines. There was THREE FEET of snow still on the ground in late August.:shocked:

Well look up Goose Bay on the map and while your there look west to a place called Labrador City. That's where I grew up and it makes Goose Bay look like Florida

Great posts; 4shorts,keep the vids coming,for the past several years,several of us old retired game wardens from Nova Scotia,have been making a trip to the Rock,and Southern Lab;to do a bit of fishing,last year had to make the trip the 1st of June,we had the great idea instead of staying in warm motels,we would spend a week in tents,while in Red Bay,we had about 4 inches of wet heavy snow one night,and winds that seemed at least 100 miles / hr. The tents somehow stayed up,but it was a bit chilly,this year I will be taking my camper,and making the trip in July,sooner the flies,than having to get out of the tent in bare feet with snow on the ground to have a wee at 2 AM.
It looks as if my son will be posted somewhere in NFLD/Lab as a fisheries officer for the summer months as well,so I could be making a trip over your way in May as well to help him move.....Well its time to ready the ole fishing rod,as the season opens here the last of this week.....Cheers.

You never know what Newfoundland/Labrador will dish out to you when it comes to weather so you always need to be ready for it as you already know. The building in the video is a DFO building and I'm just across the street from it here in Bay Roberts so if you get out this way you have to drop in. Hope it all works out for your son. We have two sons in the forces and I always tell the wife we'll never have them raised. Seems they alway need us for something. Hey that's what it's all about anyways. All the best. Paul

They had a DC-3 up in Goose Bay one winter on a charter that lost an engine. My dad and another guy had to fly up with a spare engine, and change it- outside where it was parked... no hanger available. Even though he bought about all the cold weather clothes her could find in Indiana, he still half froze. Couldn't wear gloves for a lot of the fine work required. He learned his aircraft in WWII as a Navy chief who took care of the props on all the planes at the Pensecola Naval Air Station, in Florida- including the big PBY patrol seaplanes. Since almost all of his workers were Navy Waves (women) he pretty much loved being in the war.

My dad's biggest worries were too much sun, and which Waves to date any particular weekend. In his credit, he had tried to pass the physical for Navy pilot, and underwent an unpleasant operation to try and fix his broken nose, so he could breath thru both sides, but that didn't work, and that spelled his fate to serve out his time on the Gulf Coast. Towards the end of the war, as pilot training fell off, and the need to rebuild props diminished, he had time to start making fine knives from car springs, with bakelite and aluminum for handles. All of us kids have examples.

Well the way I see it is not everyone in the forces are pilots or Navy seals and no matter what role an indavidule played in the forces they put themselves in harm to protect our rights and freedoms and I always like to thank them all. Sorry to hear your dad is no longer with us and I'd sure like to see a photo of a knife he built. On a side note. My son has been in Afganastan for over four months now. Sure wish he was back home. It's been a tough winter for his mom and I.
