I would think very, very carefully about putting anything above the ROP, believe me after years of tractor driving, no matter how careful you think you will be, unless you have a protector case/frame over anything above the ROP, you will when you least expect it, unexpectedly rip it off on a tree, shed structure, support wire or something that you just momentarily forget - been there done that on lawn mowers to 100hp tractors:laughing:

Don't know what the geometry is concerning ROPS, but when I brought my new YanmarEX450 home, it wouldn't quite go under the trusses in the shed I wanted to park it in, so the thing stayed folded most of the time. My son (a certified welder) took the top half off. cut 4" out of it and welded it back together. Problem solved. Did we ruin the integrity of the ROPS? Who cares. I'm 75 yrs old, this is my last tractor, so will never sell it. My son will probably inherit it, so there is no consideration as to what a new owner would think.

This subject gets beat to death... the ONLY reason that you can't modify your ROPS is so IF you roll and IF your ROPS is deemed at fault, the mfgr can be held liable. Its like a warranty... buy a new diesel truck, remove DPF, void warranty.

Modify your ROPS any way you want... just dont expect your widow or kids to get settlement money for a faulty ROPS claim... if on the rare chance you die or are injured in a tractor incident. Enjoy the usefulness of the new lights or whatever you do to it in the meantime... likely many hours of operation over many years. Just understand the "insureance" you lose by doing so... a calculated risk many of us are willing to take.

Does it seem like I'm argueing both sides here? I am... it boils down to each thier own. I happen to trust my metal working abilities and know to ask questions about my plans to make sure what I am about to do is a good idea. Having a close friend who is a certified welder availible to pick his brains is nice. Do what you are comfortable with and simply understand the risks... both direct and indirect.

Lots of good advice in this thread...

Like so many others on here! IN fact, if we didn't beat a dead horse on here at least a few times a day, we wouldn't have much to talk about

I'd like to know how many of the people who say "never modify your ROPS" use their seat belt absolutely every single time they move the tractor, because without the seatbelt on, the ROPS is useless.

That's another reason I don't care about modifying my ROPS. In fact, a lot of times I just keep it down if I'm working in the woods, so it doesn't get in the way. I never wear my seatbelt on my tractor so ROPS is absolutely pointless. Well, not totally pointless, it provides a bit more weight for traction and makes a great light bar.

We need to have a combined thread on modification of rops along with shorting out RIO swithches on lawnmowers, add a debate on gear vs.hydros and should be good for 100 pages.
