Our drive is 400 miles. We bought 7 acres in western N. Carolina back in 1992 and loved it since. We had a 30ft travel trailer on blocks with a roof and porch across the front. Then my wife finaly decided we should build (I was ready a long time ago) and get out of Florida. The house is almost done and I have a new pole barn to go with it.
We should be moved in by Thanksgiving.

44 miles each way, but that includes a ferry trip and the enevitable wait in line for that, so it usually takes about 2 hours each way.

In the summer, the wife and kids and I will camp out there for a week at a time, and I will commute to work on my Motorcycle (as they have priority loading on the ferry)

I'ts close enough, that in the summer if I can get out of work early, I can be there for a few hours work in the evening, and home for bed later.

Longtime lurker, fairly new member! Great thread. My wife and I drive a little over 800 miles to our property 4 times a year. We bought 62 acres in Western North Carolina in the early 1990's. At first we would go up and stay in a local motel and spend the days at the property hiking and getting a feel for where we would eventually build. We started building in spring of 2003 and finished up around spring of 2005. We were not in that big of hurry and it gave us flexibility with our contractor. This past summer we were finally able to stay for our first summer from mid June until late July(one of the benefits of being teachers). Hated to come back to work but I have 8 more years til retirement and I have to pay the bills! Only drawbacks is that I already have put over 40,000 miles on my truck in two years and we can't get away for a 3day weekend but the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Lots of beautiful land in this thread. I'm also building a cabin on my 25 acres in Caswell Co. NC. Owned it for a couple years now. Drive takes me about 40 mins and I drive it every weekend. Here are a few pics:
Started out with my first tractor- a 20hp JD 750 4x4 w/loader:

I've still got alot of work to do, but progress has been made. Its a fun way to spend my weekends and at least it keeps me out of trouble. The new Farmtrac 360TLB is earning its keep, lots of rough cutting and loader work.

It sure is neat to read about all the different homes, cabins and tent camps people have. The photos are even better. I guess for us the long drive (225 miles) is more than some but a lot less than others. One thing we all have in common is the desire to get to our "rural property" and that's one reason we bought it. Some of you know I'm going to build my home up there soon if I ever get through plan check. And my Solar power project is coming along fine.

Aside from just being in the country, my family really enjoys the different recreation it affords.
We have a huge lake 9 minutes from the property and 3 rivers surrounding us.

The smallest of the 3 rivers runs 500 yards from our property and we have perpetual access to it.
So we spend a lot of time fooling around down there either fishing or hunting or just hiking.

We also hunt dove and quail each year in one of the meadows in front of camp.
We only shoot a few each year but nevertheless, it's great to be able to do that just 50 yards in front of camp.
