Well MM, you sure started off a popular thread. Now let's see some more drone videos and less diatribe, folks! Garandman, I think you are up next!

Here's another video from out annual 4th of July Party, The second half of video is all drone footage from early on in the party then later that night the grand finale of our fireworks show. We filmed it with my drone from about 400' up. The music during the fireworks "paradise city" was blasting on the sound system with the fireworks. it worked out really well I think. By the time dusk rolled around we had well over 400 people here. Been doing this for 20 years or so.

It's charging....Got it this afternoon but I was splitting and stacking firewood. Charged the battery pack them realized I had to charge the controller also. By then it was dark.

I learned you put the black top props on the shafts with the black indent on top, and the silver top props go in the plain ones.

Also that the units defaults to "beginner mode" until you change it. Hope to make a flight tomorrow!

And finally that it comes with a micro USB cable but you have to supply your own Lightning cable if you have an iPhone.

We have software at work to reverse shots, so you can zoom away from a feature, then after processing it looks like you zoom in to it.

Yeah, I was watching a show on how they film that Ice Road Gold Rush Swamp Logging Gator Hunter show, and they kept trying to get shots of all this machinery in action moving aside as the drone came flying right up to someone standing there in the middle of it all, and they just couldn't get the shot with the excavator booms moving and I think they even damaged a drone. So they finally figured out that they should start at the guy standing there and as the drone flew away everyone moved their equipment towards it. Then they reversed the shot and it all looks like they're clearing a path for the drone. Pretty cool.

I bought propeller guards but haven't installed them yet. Seems prudent.

Hopefully you bought the quick attach type for more compact storage.

There is a lot to learn but it is exciting and challenging. I just bought a 12in lightning cord specifically for this... my phone cord is wound around the monitor mount and is a nuisance.

Day two... got brave and flew off my deck to film my backyard. Launched off the table on our deck. Didn't get all of it as I am taking baby steps. Here is my first 'snapshot'. It was a bit windy and lucky for me a downpour started just after landing. Biggest lesson of the day... I tried out the 'return to home' feature for when you loose sight or panic. It did bring it home but the landing was about 6ft off and luckily it didn't descend and hit the railing or roof! It descended just off the deck and landed 10ft below me, flawlessly. Next time I use the RTH feature I will deactivate it sooner and take control of the landing which is easy. I did try to deactivate it but it took a few seconds to gain control and it was too late.

Garandman... PM me and I will give you some more tips to help you with pre flight, firmware upgrades, etc. if you want.

So I charged it up last night, then got tied up this morning as it needed to update the firmware. It upgraded the vehicle but is still saying it needs upgrades for camera and battery.

Just took a quick flight in beginner mode to scan the horizon. Got an error message that said "Gimbal overloaded" even though I removed the plastic retainer. That might be a mismatch between firmware versions. Have work to do now, I'll get to it later.

Really very easy to fly. Registered at DJI Phantom Forum

Just a thought for those of you posting drone photos of your homes: beware as bad guys can pretty easily identify your address.

A few years ago a TBN member in a discussion about gold investments posted a photo of his home on the coast. He had shown photos of his home gold stash too. He also had made references to his job. He felt there was no problem as he hadn't given much detail. I sent him a PM after taking 15 minutes with Google and Google Earth to identify his exact address. A few unique features in a photograph and a couple of seemingly innocuous identifying facts can allow a cyber crook (or TBN visitor) to pinpoint your home. Just saying....
