Ooooh....what a terrible way to go. You would think it'd be a good size mower if a 29yr old couldn't get out from underneath it.

Happened to a kid on a farm back in the 1960's. He got pinned and drowned in a small puddle. They tried to find a hose for air, but there weren't any available on the tractor. Before rops.

Yeah, knowing what is happening would make your last moments awful. This guy worked for a landscaping company, so it could have been an 800 lb. zero-turn. Still, with a ROPS, you'd figure you can get out. We're gonna find out either no ROPS or no seat belt, I fear.

Or ROPS folded down...

Flipped a small Ford tractor with 4’ mower in a pond when I was 19 or 20. Had mowed that pond many times over the years but when I tried to turn slightly to climb the bank I could feel it start tipping. Jumped off into the water and had time to get out of the way before she flipped. Strange sight seeing four tires and bottom side of mower at water level. Told myself I’d never wear a seat belt on a tractor.

I can imagine that if there was a ROPS, it could've sunk into the soft bottom of a pond, rendering it considerably less useful.

No ROPS, no seatbelt; ROPS, seatbelt. That's the rule.

has anyone ever seen a zero turn with the rops up? I never have.

I run with mine up 100%. Never want a 1500 lbs zero turn laying on me!

Jeep flipped into a small pond at an annual 4WD rally in Anchorage - 45 years ago. Seat belt and roll bar were in use. About 30 seconds and NO SHOW - six to eight of us guys jumped into the pond and turned the Jeep upright. Driver survived but he puked up half a pond of water. He was upside down, he panicked and he could not figure how to unbuckle the seat belt. He was very lucky - it was a very sobering situation. There were a LOT of children there that witnessed this event. I'm certain it left a lasting impression on many.

I have, mine, my neighbors, but I've never seen a landscaper with the ROPS deployed, they are always down.

Mine is up 100% of the time, I actually had mine retrofitted 3-4 years ago, eXmark came out with a program that allowed owners to have them installed, if they had not been built with one, and since mine is 1999 vintage, it had not so they installed one for free
