I agree with you 110% - When the day comes that we cannot do whatever we want to do on our own property as long as it does not harm others then it is time to admit the country is lost !

When's the last time you smoked a joint on your property?
"That day" that you cannot do what you want on your property came about 30 years ago...

And, that's what opened the floodgates...

What's all this "on your property" stuff?

Here in the 'cradle of liberty' state, NO ONE owns their property!
A little thing called property taxes is, in actuality, RENT, and if you don't pay it -- guess what?
However, if you do pay if, but the local 'authorities' want to put a higher-tax-generating strip mall where your domicile presently sits?
Well the Supreme Court proved that you do not own your property.
Sigh.

In Ontario, criminal code offenses also apply to private property (eg dangerous driving or DUI type offenses). Highway traffic act is only for the public roadways (eg careless driving etc.). I base this understanding on conversations with police regarding an incident I was witness to, while coaching high school baseball. I just did some further research and I think I understand correctly.
Open liquor on a lawn mower is a liquor license offense, so no ticket on your lawn, but it is conceivable that you be asked to submit to a breathalyzer test.

This is a worthwhile discussion but if we stray off into politics, it's over. (forum rules)
Perhaps we could go back and edit that sort of commentary out. Thanks. :)

Try putting up your own still and see how fast the Feds come down on you...
...and alcohol's legal.

Interesting thread..

Here in NC.. we have a few interesting trends..

1. the Liquor cycle

2. the Liquor tractor

3. the other Liquor mobile..

Now I am sure a definition is in order---

The Liquor cycle is a moped or low HP motorcycle that can be driven WITHOUT a drivers license or insurance. normally only driven by folks who can't afford car insurance, a car and have had 1 or more DUI's such that they can not afford the first 2....

The Liquor tractor is a little fancier... follows the same rules as the Liquor cycle, but is driven by a farmer, ranch hand or other contractor in a small area. For those that live around a few small Western NC towns you may have seen these... I have seen several in the 40-60 HP range... ONE even had a cab.......

The liquor mobile is the catch all--- Fits all the categories above, but this one spans from golf cart to a garden mule..

now I am sure you can get a laugh out of the irony here...:D

and as Forrest says---
"that's all I have to say about that"

Julio, they have those DUI mopeds in Germany too. And they have some very small, barely powered cars that may be driven locally with the proper license plates announcing your Hester Prin driving status. :)

Jethro,
Whoops, senior moment, her name was 'Hester Prynne', the fallen woman of the book 'The Scarlet Letter'. Used to be a common novel used in high school English classes. She had to wear a scarlet 'A' on her dress as a punishment for adultery. The story is set in Puritan times if I remember correctly.
