The last few gas v8's I have had, had a 2 into 1, then a cat and single out the back.
Some years ago, I had a '79 Trans Am; it had 2 in to 1, then a cat, the went back to duals; kind defeats the purpose of dual mufflers.
Some older performance V8's had an "H" pipe. A small cross over pipe was installed mid way in the dual exhaust. Balanced the exhaust impulses a little, little better performance.
If you do not have a CAT, then dual exhaust would be nice. Nice sound, and lowers the back pressure for a little more power and a little more MPG. You have to be careful though; too open of a muffler does not create enough back pressure, resulting in a loss of bottom end power. It will sound good, but not make as much power.
