Dumb question - can you offset a rotary cutter?

That is the like ours. Actually we have two with one for parts. I saw the one that we use for parts first ($400) that had a brand new 3PH but needed other work as well. The $1100 we got is well worn but OK and the 3PH had been welded on.

The 3PH soon broke and BH wanted $350 for a new hitch so I went and bought $400 one so I now have other spare parts. I will add a Tractorhouse ad with three photos.

In waist high Johnson grass it is a load on the 3600 Ford. It is my go to cutter but for waist high stuff and bushes > 1.5 inch and a lot of large dead limbs like in the spring I use the super heavy 6' bush hog behind the 265 MF for the first pass. The offset on the PTO is steep so I do not like to load the cutter really heavy because the PTO joints are already very sloppy from wear so I try to grease it after every 1-2 hours of use but that is not a problem because I try to start around 6 pm seldom mow for more than two hours.

I don't really know if they are available in the US. I'm thinking it's not available.

These are slightly different from the ones in the US as these can use Chains or Blades accordingly to the use. Chains will deal with rocks, stumps and whatever is hidden in the brush but it's still possible to run a set of blades. Chains will also heat more HP.

These offset mowers will offset to both left and right sides and will offset about 10 inches, depending on the model and width of the mower, which might not be enough to mow the sides of the driveway. There are light, medium and heavy duty versions available.

Shipping one of these can be cost prohibitive. It all depends on what you're trying to mow. Maybe an offset flail mower, like it was suggested, can work.

I guess I was about 65-66 when I saw the first one ($400) about 5 miles from the house at a questionable new location about a 1/2 mile from a 60 year old used tractor place. Within a short period of time I found ours on Craigslist I think about 40 miles from the house ($1100) and settled on the price by phone if it pasted my eyeball test and left with the trailer. When I got there he had it mounted on an old JD and spun it up. Then we loaded it on our 12' trailer. Now I see one from time to time.

Actually $5K new is not a bad price and any BH dealership should be able to get you one. New like ones are still 60-80% the price of a used one. I have a 84" BH finish mower and got it all fixed up. New BH brand bushings for all four corners for the gauge wheels vertical mounts and a new belt and new gear box oil. It is very nice but I mow under a lot of trees and did not want to have pick up limbs every time I mowed due to my physical limitations and I have $1500 in it but it came from the dealer that sold it NEW.

CMV, just trying to help you spend your money. lol I would consider a offset flail mower if you are not able to swing your current mower far enough to the side. But to the question you asked and some of us got way past it yes you should be able to swing your lift arms and the pto shaft work fine. Just try turning by hand to verify it does and yes listen to it.
