Patrick--Sorry!! I read the SOCAL part of your bio and somehow skipped over the OK part . . . BTW, thanks for being one of the few to specifically exclude me from the "dumbest" category (I told my wife but she wouldn't believe it! :) )

A neighbor down the road from me offered to pay me $25 a truckload for firewood. He would come in and cutup and remove already downed trees (tops and lops from a hardwood harvest). My wife thought it was a good deal, easy money for no work on our part. I checked with my insurance agent and he advised against it. Anything that could happen to him could come back on me, in addition to him possibly setting fire to the forrest. I told him no.

NOt to be chauvinistic, it just happened to be two ladies... Two ladies in hardware store. One is looking to buy a screw in fuse for her old style fusebox. Her clever friend says. "oh no dear, don't buy the 15 amp like the one that burned out buy the 30 amp, you get twice as many amps for the same price and it will probably last longer."

Patrick, that makes a lot more sense than some of the things the prior owner did to my place./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The last house I was in (major fixer-upper) the previous owner left me some spare change. Only problem was that it was in the screw-in sockets in the fuse box.

The building inspector said - "Look, 200 Amp service in a 60 Amp box!" /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. Mortgage company wasn't too impressed though - had to buy and install a 200 Amp box BEFORE closing. Had to do that on a handshake with the old gentleman (and I mean gentleman) that was selling.

It's a shame that he wasn't too savvy electrically.

Steve, I use to work for a company that produced crushed limestone, among other things. We did not sell boulders because it did not seem profitable. But there was plenty of them around after blasting. We had some people that wanted some bad enough they were willing to use their own machinery and people to load them, and pay us a good price beside. It seemed like some good easy money, so it was taken to the companies legal eagles. They said that those who wanted the boulders should provide insurance that would cover them while on our property removing the boulders. It was for some huge amount like 10 million dollars worth. A couple of outfits took them up on it. We kept an eye on them, but they got their boulders and no one was hurt. Just thought this was interesting, because it is simular to your situation. Your agent gave you good advice.

I once looked at a 3 bedroom house with a 2 car detached garage and a small building in the rear that was set up as a guest house. They ran the whole shebang off one 30 amp fuse. I think the only reason they were getting away with it is seasonal usage, so the loads were lights, small fridge and TV.
