Dumbest tractor uses?

Hi Bill,

No this is a different one. The one I am talking about happened in 2003 or 2004 I think . The guy was in an enclosed cab, and I'm sure he had to sit there and wait for the hog poop to slowly rise in the cab until he drowned. He probably couldn't get the door open because of the pressure of the poop against the doors. Gives me the willies just thinking about it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Great Stories! This is just what I was hoping to see.

It sounds like I can prevent about 3/4 of accidents by avoiding trees and ditches.

As for the poor guy in the hog poop...I'd have started beating my head aginst a window. That way I either break the window with my thick skull or put myself out of my misery.

Ain't that the truth... If I spend my whole life trying to protect my life, I don't have much of a life left to protect.

I guess that I just have to realize there are some inherent risks with certain tasks. Those tasks then require a little more thought and an increase in my attention to safety.

Had an unusually intellectual thought today while mowing in the rain - isnt it funny that people who earn loads of money are too busy to enjoy it and those who have loads of free time dont have much money to enjoy. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Wierd huh?

I used my tractor FEL to remove stucco from the side of my house.

I decided to use the tractor's finish mower on the yard, and didn't want to spend too much time wead eating, so I tried to get as close as possible to the house when mowing. While looking behind me to make sure I was get close enough, the FEL made contact with the wall of the house and rubbed along the stucco for three to four feet before I heard something terrible. The sound of metal grinding into cement! My kids come running out of the house thinking there was an earthquake and thunder outside their bedroom! No, it was just dad doing something stupid!!! I am glad I didn't take out a window or punch through the block wall. Now back to my stucco repair!

Well, growin up on a dairy, you see some pretty dumb stuff. (especially when your up at 3 am with the cows!!). the dumbest thing I ever saw was one of our hired hands try to run our old MF up the side of a manure pile in order to pile it higher. needless to say, it was a bit too steep! (not good)

I also recall seeing my dad roll on of the JD 4020's down the side of the hill in order to jump start it. (more than once)!!

Is it too late to play? Here's what NOT to do while running a logging winch.

This spring while working up a load of pulp I cut a big birch tree. I had a wet area I was going through so left it hooked to the cable in case I had to drop it, then run the tractor through and winch again. I came up onto the road and the front wheels came up... then 1 front went down as a rear wheel came off the ground. I got the clutch in and the bucket on the ground fast. Why I didn't go over I'll never know.

Last weekend, all too similar situation.I had a 1 twitch on the low towbar portion of the winch (where you are SUPPOSED to tow from) and another on the cable as I went down the road spooling cable out, as I was only dragging it about 30 yards, stump to yard. Suddenly the front end was off the ground... I'd forgotten I'd shortened the cable about 20 feet, and it had run to the end.


Moral of the stories; Always hook your twitch to the towbar when moving the tractor.
