dummy can\'t connect...

Yesterday I take off the backhoe, resting on the bucket and both stabilizers. This morning I try to reconnect it and for the life of me cannot get the quick connect hoses to connect. VERY frustrating and I'm feeling stupid that there is something obvious I'm missing. I've connected this about 4 or 5 times before just fine. They go almost all the way but not that final locking click.
I notice the backhoe as settled down a bit as I forgot to put a block under the center. I wonder if the settling has put more pressure on the backhoe part of the hose so the little nipple inside cannot release and lock (if that makes sense)
I'll try to play with it a little when I get home tonite....

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

Sounds like pressure in the hose to me. Did you try a brass punch to push the stop ball in a bit? It's messy but effective.

Like you stated pressure in the hoses. John Bud has the idea and that should get you going on the right track.

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

I had that same problem the second time I tried to reconnect my FEL - was just pressure in the control
box in my case. Just moved the FEL control handle around to relieve the pressure and the quick
connects popped right on.

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

I posted this very same question a couple of months ago. The problem is that after you disconnect, pressure can build up on one side or the other for a variety of reasons, sometimes tempurature changes or the implement gets loaded.

At any rate, you just need to relieve the pressure in the connectors on both sides. I use a flat-faced punch. I stick the punch in the connector, wrap a towel around it, and push on it. You'll here a little "splush", and the pressure is gone.

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

I used to have the same problems with my snowplows until I got a short piece of hyd hose with a male and female end. Once I took the plow off, I connected the short jumper hose between opposing cylinders and no matter how much movement there was, the pressure was always equalized.
Good luck

There's a swivel nut at the other end of the hose that might be loosened to relieve the pressure also.

won't say much except i agree with the others . sounds like pressure. just be careful when u releive it. one quick shot of high pressure fluid can ruin your day.

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

Yeah that was the problem, thanks to all.
Now I'll never forget to block under the backhoe so it won't settle down and create pressure.
BTW I'm curious...how long does it typically take one to switch from, say a box scraper to the backhoe.
I seem to remember the dealer saying about 10 minutes.
But he must have been refering to the Mario Andretti professional pit crew's world record.
It takes me about... alittle longer....

Re: dummy can\'t connect...

Can't comment on the BH, but swapping from a mower to/from the box scraper takes me less than 10 minutes for sure. Taking the FEL off/on takes a lot less than that.

First time or two takes a lot longer. Once you get the hang of it, they all go pretty quickly. The mower/box scraper switch "could" go faster if they connected the same way (Box scraper you just pull a pin, but the mower has fixed pins & you have to spread the 3PH lifting arms /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif).
