My sure trac 5x8 has an interior that is 7 ft 11 inches. So I take my cordless circular saw with me when I pickup sheet goods.
No offense intended, but that's the craziest thing I've ever heard. You cut your 8' sheet goods just so they can fit in a trailer that happens to be 1" too short? Then what, you build things at home with 7'10" sheets? SO you stand in the home depot parking lot cutting strips off with a circular saw?!? I just can't even fathom this. Why not just lay them up against the tailgate of the trailer and keep them 8' long?
Anyway, if a pickup truck is not in the cards, I get it. But a 6x10' dump trailer already wieghs 3000 lbs EMPTY. It's a lot of weight to pull behind an SUV. I don't see how you wouldn't be exceeding your tongue weight and total GCVWR with any reasonable amount of dirt of gravel in the dump bed. You're only legally and safely going to be able to haul a yard or two at a time. For a gravel driveway or other projects, that really doesn't go far at all. How many trips are you willing to take?
