Dump Trailer Hydraulics

I also, with the tractor, just about bent the trailer in half (dumping) with a full load of rocks.
Keep that in mind, the tractor has a bzillion times more balls than those whimpy battery/electric pumps do.

I use my dump trailer with my tractor A LOT and the deep cycle on the trailer lasts forever (more than 50 and maybe more than 100 loaded dumps- dual action).
Nevertheless, I had thought about plumbing to my remotes but rustyiron's comment about over driveing the hardware has me rethinking that.

I believe its gravity.

Gravity would be a single acting cylinder, one hose. Your tractor manual should show how to configure the remote for single acting.

I did the same thing this way:
Put a pair of hyd quick couplers on the elec. motor/dump cyl. hoses.
Then made up hoses to reach the tractor/cyl. hoses.
This way it was very easy to go back & forth to tractor or truck use. The longer tractor hoses would completely remove for road use.

^ This is brilliant! Going to have to copy that!...thanks for sharing!

I think that some set ups, although single acting, use the "other" side of the cyl. as additional reservoir capacity giving you 2 hoses. They still operate gravity down via a solenoid valve.

A friend of mine has several dump trailers. He runs a heavy wire from the vehicle battery system to the rear of his trucks and uses a "fork lift" connector (very heavy plug) to connect the trailer to the truck when he dumps. This way, the trailer battery is not drained when he dumps and, with the vehicle power added, the trailer dumps quicker, stronger and safer.

You could add the same electric hookup on a tractor.

Sounds like a plan! Thanks!

This is an update to my original post: The trailer I purchased is homemade. Also, the pump is leaking (well its stopped now because I think the reservoir is empty..... Anyway, what got me thinking about all of this was do I rebuild the pump (which at some point I would have to do regardless if I keep it or sell it) or do I just hook it into the tractor making life fairly easy. Like I said I should have included that in the original post. So keep the ideas/advice flowing. Great input from you folks as always!!
