I just broke down an orderd an in bed tank for my Dodge. Can't wait to install it. I won't have to stop for watered down diesel fuel in those high priced little back water towns anymore. Georgia to Texas no problem. I should have a "real" 1200 mile range at 70/75 mph (50 Aux + 30 gallons truck, or 36 if you take the time to drip that last 6 gallons in). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you talking about a transfer flow tank or a refuelling tank ? The trans flow tanks are very popular but man my wallet shrinks just thinking about those. I talked to a couple of guys who run 2 micron filters off the lift pump that comes with them. The filter is right in the bed of the truck. I really want to find a way to filter out of the refuelling style tank so I can run pre-filtered fuel in my tractor. I know exactly what you mean about buying unreliable fuel. Here on the other side of town their is a Sunoco station that is regularly 20 cents cheaper than every place else. I want to be able to buy at least 50-75 gallons and try to save $$$ and time. Doc and Daryl, Are you guys running refuelling tanks in your trucks ???? Dave

Dave:

Back when I had more "disposable" income, I had Dee Zee custom build me a refueling tank out of diamond plate aluminum with a matching toolbox. Then I took a tonneau cover and had it cut down to fit the bed with the tank and toolbox installed. The tonneau is rolled up in the garage. Most of the time, the camper is in the bed and if the camper is out, the tank and box is in and the goose neck hitch is being used.

My tank is 100 gallons. I have a 12 volt tuthill transfer pump and a 5 micron in line filter. I put an RV style 7 way plug on the cord and I plug it into the male in the bed. I used to carry on-road diesel up north but now I just use the tank during farm time with off-road diesel that I pump from the bulk tank.

If I remember correctly, the tank and box was about $900.00. It's is really sharp looking. Right now, it's sitting next to the shop!!

You want to buy it???

You got my attention. You can get the transfer flow tanks that go in the bed daryl and fuel directly into your main tank. When your main tank hits 1/2 tank it auto fills to 3/4 tank from the auxillary. Theese are set up so you can still use a fifth wheel. But now I think about it you said camper. That wont help much now will it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Shoot me some dimensions daryl. I have a SWB so my bed is probably narrower than yours but its worh a look. Dee Zeee now makes a lot of this stuff even the ones with built in tool boxes. I think the ones from www.transferflow.com are the only ones with a current DOT exemption. Their tanks are more expensive but they are baffled and have a vent. My current thoughts are running to picking up one of theese and hooking up a lift pump with a 2 micron filter so I am constantly filtering the aux tank as I drive. The filter and pump will be in the bed. I will put my DFA in the aux tank and only fill the OEM tank from the aux tank. Clean fuel for beast and tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Da big boss might have other thoughts when she see the cost /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Doc are you filtering out of your main tank and running a extra aux tank ?Dave

I've got a 100 gallon diamond plate tank that I put in when I go on long trips. It's got two place to hook on with a chain and I can easily lift it in or out of the pickup full of fuel or not. I've got a pump with hose and nozzle that I run off the truck battery. Takes me less time to fill my truck with this setup than stopping at the gas station. I've got less than $400 in the whole setup. I bought the tank on a closeout deal from F&F some years back for about $200 and the good pump with nozzle and filter was around $200.

Richard do you know what the filter is rated at (microns ?) and is the filter on the handle ? Do you filter at all comeing out of your main tank or do you just treat the fuel in the main tank ? Dave

No it's just canister type like you put on a fuel barrel. The filter is located right off the pump inline with the hose. As far as my tank I don't worry too much about it. Ford has a filter in the tank for your primary filter. Then they have another one inline before the auxillary pump. And then you have another one right on the motor. I replace these regularly and use good filters and don't worry too much about it.
