exhaust flex pipe- I will be sure to ask for it.
Peter- "your generator has a muffler. It is visible in one of your photos, the silver item to which your spark arrestor is attached." in the first picture in my first post, you can see the spark arrestor cover and the end of the previously connected flex pipe to its right. It was hard to get a good picture. I will get new pipe. The previous generator was not used often, luckily, and only an hour or so then. It is not intended to be whole house, just the refrigerator, a few light outlets, the television. Switching from line to generator is manual and the generator will never be left on more than an hour or so at a time. And never overnight.
I do intend to drain the oil at the 6-7 hour mark and put new in. A question- is it all right to run a generator for 45 minutes or so, with no draw on it?

running a gas powered generator without a load will not harm it. there are millions of standby whole house generators that exercise for 5-12 minutes every week with no load on them.

running it loaded will help it run hotter and help to burn off any moisture in the oil though.

Many auto parts stores stock the sort of reducers and adapters that you want, though around here the stock of one inch +/- can be thin. Generally though, from a generator, you want a larger pipe than the engine exhaust. I would get some larger ID flex pipe, and do any adapting on the add-on muffler.

The mesh is probably a spark arresting mesh, required on most gasoline generators these days. It does bear checking periodically to make sure it hasn't clogged with rust or carbon.

Do you need the extra exhaust pipe if it is open to the outside?

We have a DuroMax XP4850EH Generator: 4,000 peak/3,500 constant. It runs at (db): 69 and is loud enough that we have a difficult time conversing with one another inside the trailer and I don’t want to be the inconsiderate neighbor running it throughout the day when camping should be more peaceful. I may end up just sucking up the cost of a couple Honda EU2200i’s run at 48-57db and pair them up, but they are a little pricey. Our last trip the guy next to us had the Hondas and I didn’t even hear them.
I don’t want to lose the investment in the current generator without investigating if I can purchase an aftermarket muffler of some type. Has anyone used an after market muffler for their generator? If so, any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

I asked Duromax if my XP13000 had an internal muffler. following is the response:
"The muffler is external because it's floating in the open air, but Internal since it is inside the overall frame."
To Peter- I apologize blowing you off a few posts ago when you said the spark arrestor was attached to the muffler. I just went down to measure the exhaust opening that holds the spark arrestor and the lightbulb went off, now I see what you were describing. The muffler is indeed there.

I have used larger and add-on mufflers on a couple of generators, and the difference has been quite small. On one of them, the exhaust noises did get reduced, only to be able to hear how loud the engine itself was.

The "silent" type of generators have internal soundproofing, convoluted air flow and lots of rubber isolators. I think it is not easy to "duct tape" fix a loud generator.

If a quiet generator is the goal, I would bite the bullet and buy a quiet generator, preferably a quiet inverter generator.

All the best,

Peter
