Well last year we had one of our employees go to Afghanistan so I turned to all of you and asked for help in collecting DVDs to start a video library for our soldiers stationed at Camp Phoenix, Kabul Afghanistan.

This year we have another employee who has been deployed. He is currently running fuel trucks and is based near Bagdad. Apparently it is one of the riskier duties over there. When off duty, he is still confined to base, and he pretty much eats, sleeps and lives in a flack jacket 24 hours a day. He is one of my truck drivers and has sent back a few letters that have brought tears to our eyes.

Anyway, I'm going to ask for your help again. And I am not asking for my soldier alone, I am asking for his base. We are looking to gather up as many DVDs as we can gather so they can have some sort of entertainment. The last time I did this we shipped over almost 400 DVDs to our folks over there. I am hopeful that we can do the same again this year, but this time for a different base camp.

What I need are ANY (non-****/non-war/non-childrens) new or used DVDs that you have that you no longer use, or any that you can buy and ship to me. My company ships care packages to his base every week containing cases of candy, snacks, magazines, cigars, etc. But they are in serious need of entertainment. Last time we did this I found that people were very creative and went to their local video stores and asked for special deals on used DVDs and bought a bunch of them for a buck or two. Some of the supermarket managers also were willing to cut prices. Many people also searched through their cabinets at home and took out the DVDs they no longer play. I'll take and ship over anything that I can get and I would greatly appreciate your help.

Send them to:

I don't want to start any discussion regarding PRO- or ANTI- war beliefs, this is simply a matter of helping support the people who are IN the war and living it every day.

Bob,

Once I remove those from my DVD cabinet, it's empty.

Let me go to the store.

Brian, thanks! And you've got time to shop because I probably won't ship the DVDs off until I gather/purchase a bunch of them, so probably mid-to-late April. I've also hit up my business associates and we are taking up a collection here at works. Plus, I'll probably buy a few dozen myself to kick into the pile.

This is wierd!!!!!! You know, it was only this last week-end that I said to my wife that it had been a long time since Bob Skurka ran one of his DVD drives. I was going to PM you to see if you still did it and I'm very glad to see that you do.

We don't buy a whole lot of DVD's but I know I've got a few laying around that you're more than welcome to.

Frank, I'm hpoing to ship out 300 to 400 DVDs by the end of April to the guys in Iraq so there is plenty of time to gather them up. I've gotten several personal emails from folks already and I suspect that we'll be able to take care of our guys & gals over there with a nice selection of movies. If anyone cares to look around on Ebay, DVD's can often be purchased for $1 to $3 each, and if purchasing several from 1 seller shipping can often be combined to save even more. The last time I did this I had people send me money for shipping costs, but I figure we send stuff over anyway so I just used their "shipping" money to buy more DVDs.

Anyway, I'll gladly accept and ship over any DVDs you can come up with. Again my plan is to get the shipments of these going about the end of April.

I just got a $100 check in the mail.

The note said I should not say who sent it, but that I should use the money to buy DVDs and sent them to Iraq.

You know who you are!
THANK YOU

Bob,
Call us behind the times.....we just got a DVD player and I got my first DVD gift a month ago. It's yours ....as well as whatever my paycheck will allow me to send as a thanks to those that allow us to sleep safely each night.

Thanks for keeping this alive.

OK guys, I need some help here...

Does anyone know of a decent place to buy DVD's in quantity?

I went through e-bay but many of the "lots" that are for sale give very little (if any) information on what movies may be included.

Mark, I want to publicly thank you for your contribution, it arrived in the mail today.

There has actually been quite a bit of activity going on in the background. Some corporate and some personal donations, and one TBN member who is really working hard to buy DVDs on Ebay with the money that is being contributed. It is apparently easier to buy in bulk! bczoom scored us 40 DVDs for only $100.

We've now got more money that I've told him I will send him, and now I can forward the money from Mark to Brian to see what other magic he can work.

As always, I really want to thank anyone and everyone who can spare a DVD or two for our troops. Also, I started doing something a bit different, as I have a DVD recorder at home, I started recording episodes of "American Chopper" and "Biker Build-off" to send over in addition to the movies. I'm thinking of recording "South Park" episodes too? Anyway, every bit of help is appreciated by the folks over there and I will, just as I did last time, make sure our troops know that this effort was a wide ranging effort with lots of people who are pitching in what they can to show their appreciation.
