For what this is worth, I'll pay the difference in the two and get the fuel without the dye, I know people who say they run it with no problems, I'm not one of them. I bought it a couple of times, the tractor ran but a huge lack of power and fouled up fuel filters.

This don't make sense as the 2 are probably one and the same by now.

Don't it strike you funny that the red fuel works in millions of other tractors and other equipment but not in your tractor.

You know, that brings up a good point. I was told at one time that a pump with 3 grades such as 87, 89, 91 would only draw from 2 in the ground tanks. The station has 87 and 91 and mixes about 50/50 to make the 89. Not sure if its true or not but makes sense to me.

As for the hose holding a bunch of fuel I do not think its as big of problem as you may think. I have a farm tank for my diesel with 10' of 3/4" of hose. I had to fix a leak at the base of the filter so had to remove the hose. I bet there was only 1 qt of fuel in it.

Chris

I see many pumps that have gallon counter on them for maintenance.. when you pump regular or premium, only one dial moves.. when you pump mid.. both of them move.. so that lends creedence to the mixing down of reg and prem to make mid.

I'm still wondering how the diesels thing works though.. as the dye would have to contaminate the clear diesel pumped after it. Heck.. what if yuo were only topping off and bought just 2-3 gallons.. virtually all ofit would be red diesel... that would look great the next day when they stick your tank and hold it to a white card and see PINK fuel!

That is why I asked could you please go test it for us? I think many would like to know just how much red comes out the hose before it cleans back out to clear (or greenish or whatever).
I haven't found a station doing the one hose thing for diesel, heck I can't readily find ANY station to buy off road at period for my tractor and two diesel generators...
If I can get my hands on some off road D I will do some testing to see just how much is needed to make it visually apparent red is in there. Like I already posted some sources say it takes very little of the red to contaminate a whole bunch of the non-dyed.

To the comment about me nit picking about mid-grade gas being a rip off- YES it is a nit pick, but the petro chain already stings us bad enough without having to pay about 4 cents a gallon more for mid grade, at current prices, than it should cost:cool:

I don't know but it looks like this station figured it out.
Then you'd mandate any station selling on road diesel must install another tank for off road and replace all their pumps with ones like at a Sunoco station. Would this be a state or federal regulation?

Why not have it delivered instead of going and getting it?

I simply waited too long, I usually get it delivered. I needed some fuel now and they were 2-3 days out due to the high volume of farmers in my area planting now. Another factor was price. The delivery guy was at $4.59 through $4.64 and could go up the next day. My local Marathon station that sells off road was at $4.29 and I got about 125 gallons so it saved me $30 or more. I would have filled the whole 300 gallon tank but my tractor could not lift that much fuel out of the truck with the FEL and forks.

*That's my gripe about off road:
The small user falls through the cracks and ends up paying a tax he doesn't owe ; thanks to various government rules that makes off road difficult if not impossible for small users to obtain.
Can you find home heating oil ?
That will work fine in your tractor and two diesel generators...

I never suggested any such thing.
There is only one place where I can just drive in and pick up the nozzle and fill up a 5 gallon can with off road.
It's the only place you can do that in this county.
I find it preposterous that there is only 1 place that you can do that in one of Ohio's largest counties.
It's simply outrages to have to make a 54 mile round trip to do that.
The only other place I can do that is in Wood county W.Va.
But here again it's 25 miles one way.

I'm simply saying that when one cannot acquire off road in his general area that person should be excused from paying on road tax.
The Gov. needs to take steps that encourages availability of off road rather than actions that restricts availability of off road.

You keep suggesting this without any idea of what it will cost to actually do something. Too often people think 'something ought to be done', they whine to their representatives about it then when the government actually does something, like passing legislation or regulations to accomplish this, everyone is surprised that it means we get to pay more taxes or small businesses get to spend more money to comply with yet another government mandate. Any time 'The Gov.' 'takes steps' it means taxes go up, regulation goes up, or both. The free enterprise solution is to ask a retailer why they do not carry off road diesel. If they get enough requests, they will.

Actually.. maybee I'll do this.
I'll go buy 5g of red diesel.. that way, the 2g int he hose thatis probably clear will be fully flushed, and the hose should be full of red at the end of the 5g, and then I will make another purchase and start pumping and see what i get. i plan to put both of these into my tractor, as I don't trust that 2nd purchas going into my truck.

Mind you.. I'll probably have to do this on credit card as diesel is near 5$ a gallon now!
