I know Bed, Bath & Beyond is a bit high priced on a lot of things

The Dyson was the exact same at Lowes (as well as all the other models).

Bed Bath & Beyond has a great return policy, even after extended periods of time, no questions asked. Easier to get to their store as well, and easier dealing with their people than a "mad house" at a box store.

Could buy a refurbished unit online for $200 less, but didn't want to go that route. Sometimes the cheapest place you find something to buy online has the absolute worst customer service (if any at all).

I've only returned one item to Bed, Bath & Beyond; about a $30 stainless steel pitcher. A screw that held the handle on broke within a week, but like you said, no problem returning it. I opted for the refund instead of a replacement, and sure enough a short time later, found an almost identical item at Walmart for half the price. I ordered a refurbished or reconditioned KitchenAid mixer direct online, but when I bought this KitchenAid countertop oven it was the same price everywhere I checked, so I bought it from Bed, Bath & Beyond and used one of our 20% off coupons. In other words, they were the cheapest place I found.

The way I figure it, it all evens out when we're six feet under;)

That said, getting ready to go to the dump station and taking 5-5 gallon gas containers to get filled up for work around the house. With the truck needing gas and gas containers, that money I just saved yesterday is now spent, and then some.

Man, I'm glad I saw this thread.
My wife is a big fan of Consumer Reports and buys accordingly. I, on the otherhand, am not a big fan, having had real world differences like Bird and alchemysa mentioned. Since I am the one who does the vacuuming, I wanted a Dyson Ball anyway. We have an older Panasonic we use at our Rancho home, so we bought a new Dyson a couple months ago to use in our new Log Home. It is still in the box but I think the home is ready for a vacuum test next visit. I'm glad to hear the good reviews about it here.

Rob,

With your floors and lots of dirt outside, I'd sure be interested in a review of the Dyson after you've used it. Which model is it?

We don't have pets, so that's not an issue, but we do have dirt. LOTS OF DIRT!!!! hahaha

My wife used it today while I was out mowing;) she really likes it.

She was impressed with the suction and the fact that it never seemed to "let up".

We have an all weather floor mat at the kitchen door (filled with pet hair that we could never get out, even after pressure washing), and the Dyson cleaned it better than our other vacuum cleaner (a nice unit my wife got some years ago, don't know the name) and the shop vac. That mat looks brand new now, couldn't see one pet hair on it.

Emptied the canister and was amazed at the small fine dirt that vacuum cleaned out on the rug going to the basement.

What I really found interesting was in the brochure, Dyson made a wheel barrel with that same ball design as the vacuum cleaner.

If you go to this website and scroll down to the "12in Deluxe Central Vacuum Accessory Floor Brush Part#402D ", that looks like the brush I actually bought for my 12 gallon Craftsman shop vac to clean my billiard (pool) table. But it works well on floors, too.:D

Actually my floor attachment is closer to the $69.13 one further down the page. It is all metal, the head attaches to a metal wand, with a labyrinth seal.

I've always gotten nearly perfect advice from Consumer Reports so I do put a fair amount of trust in them.

We are also in the market for a new vacuum. And traditionally the vacuum cleaner market is full or rackets, ridiculous claims and idiotic gadgets that appeal to women. That being the case, I always thought the Dysons looked like the latest and greatest racket to get you to pay more for a motor with a tube on it. And the English accent just gave it that much more of a 'racket' vibe.

But, TBN folks are usually pretty sharp and the reviews here seem quite good. So I'll have to give the Dysons a look.

We have an Orek now that we plan to take down to the cabin. The Orek is a mixed bag. It is a good cleaner, it has a powerful motor, it is light as a feather and is gimic free. On the other hand, it is very simple construction and design and has no business costing as much as it does. But we've had it for ten years and it still works fine.

I hate buying vacuums. Always feel like I'm paying for hot air and snake oil. But I'll give the Dysons a look.

My wife has a birthday coming up..........

Sigarms,

I am glad you got the coupon. :D

I mentioned this thead to the wife on Sunday. She said that while the coupon we get in the mail stated that the coupon could not be applied to Dyson, she called BB&B and they sent us a coupon that COULD be used with Dyson. I don't remember doing this at all. I do remember the discount though. :D

My company has a deal with Circuit City. Employees get 10% or 20% off if we spend more than, I think $250, on a single item. Read the small pring and the item cannot be a tv, computer, monitor, game console, etc. In other words the deal is useless.

But back to Dyson. One needs a coupon. On my second trip to Lowes this weekend, ya'll know how that goes, I noticed the Dysons. The Animal was $549.:eek::eek::eek: OUCH!

If you see something at BB&B that is "banned" on the BB&B coupon ask the manager if they will honor the coupon anyway. If not, call them and asked for a coupon that you can use. :D

Later,
Dan

A $549 vacuum cleaner? Sorry, that's just nuts. I can have the carpet professionally steam cleaned every other month for a year for that much.

Birthday or no birthday my wife aint getting a $549 vacuum even if it was designed by a handsome fellow with a British accent....
