Likewise, since I now own the Dyson, absolutely love it (as well as the wife).

With all the dog hair, go "ga ga" over the wand attachement which makes picking up "clumps" of hair a breeze.

Had a couple buddies over for dinner awhile ago, and they remarked how well the first floor looked due to all the dogs we have. Showed them they Dyson and how it worked/works, and one of the guys went out and bought one himself due to his yellow lab and the hardwood floors he has.

Since we recently replaced the old couch with some new leather furniture, also have rave reviews on the "scat mat" used to keep dogs off furniture you don't want them on:D

Sig, which Dyson did you get? Believe it or not, now I do most of the vacuuming around the place since I got it. However, I will NOT wear an apron! I like the attachments that clip onto the machine and the extendable handle tube. Very handy.

That's a pretty good comeback Heywood! I laughed at that one.

Hey, I've got a Dyson too - And I like it - But I had a minor piece break on it - So, I wanted to get a replacement part - I figured maybe $15 including shipping. The customer service lady said we don't sell that part, you have to buy a whole canister $33 + shipping - I thought "What a load of crap" I just continue to use it even though it's broken - It's an inconvenience, but it just made no sense to me to buy a lot more than I needed.

Redbug, it was the "Animal" as well.

So far, so good, no problems, and with 6 dogs, it does get a workout on a regular basis.

I just find the Dyson a lot easier to work with than my wifes older "high end" cleaner.

rgood, I know the feeling, but not with the Dyson, but with a Toshiba laptop. Old company I worked for even charged me a good penny for a 3 year extended warranty on that laptop. Called Toshiba, explained the issue with the screen (hairline crack), and they told me no problem. Take it to their "local" service center 2 hours away, and find out there that the screen is not covered and it's going to cost me $365:mad: Then I get people on the phone who don't speak very good English, and when I finally do (talk to someone who speaks English) I'm told to go pound sand.

Never again will I buy anything with "Toshiba" on it.

Heywood, as mentioned, good one:D

I couldn't resist that one, sorry! ;)
I'll have to take a look at those Dysons. We have cats. The general consensus on them seems pretty favorable, apart from the cost.

I'm at the point where I have to either replace the powered 30' hose and cord for our 20 year old Sears central vac, or buy one of these latest generation lighter-weight uprights. It will probably cost as much to replace just the hose and beater bar cord - both are shot. The hose looks like it was cut with an x-acto knife in numerous spots. It has black electrical tape wrapped around it everywhere now!

And the power cord has a break somewhere in the molded plug that requires constant wiggling to keep the bar working. Real annoying. Just wrestling with the 30' hose doesn't make the central vac all that convenient. It is powerful though.

I guess I'll still use the outlet in the garage with another un-powered hose I have for car cleaning and stuff.

We purchased a Dyson Allergy model about 3 months ago. While it is heavy compared to some of the other manufactures. There is no comparison to the others in its ability to remove dirt. All that extra weight must go into the motor. This gives it the power to really suck. This thread is what got us looking and finally purchasing.

Had a 2nd minor latch piece break on this thing - Called again for parts - Their parts costs are TOTALLY Ridiculous - I ended up buying replacement parts on EBAY. Good cleaner, but has some poor quality plastic parts in it.

We've been comparing the Oreck and the Dyson. Still haven't made a decision, but recently borrowed both. The Oreck that we borrowed was pretty basic. Just a vacuum with a bag. No hoses or frills, just a basic vacuum cleaner that does a good job and picks up everything. Then over the 4th, we borrowed a Dyson ball vacuum cleaner. This one doesn't have a bag, it all goes into a container. It was very powerful and did a great job of picking everything up. Both seem to do what we want, but we're nervous about the plastic on the Dyson. It seems kind of cheap, even though it's very pricey. If we were to go out and buy today, the Oreck seems like a better vacuum cleaner because it doesn't seem as easy to break or fall apart.

We got a Dyson about a year and a half ago. It is awesome compared to the other vacuum's that we've had. It is the yellow one, I think the standard model. To Eddie's point, some of the plastic parts worry me but so far so good. We are very pleased with it.

Oreck apparently is good but can't speak to it as we've never used one.

We have had a Panasonic upright for years, I replaced the belt and after using it for a few minutes, the belt would start smoking. I thought it was time to be replaced so I ordered a new Panasonic, since the old one had lasted so long, on line that don't use a bag $69.99 factory refurbished and free shipping. I was reading the manual and when I got to the section to replace the belt, same belt as the old one, I realized that I needed to check the old one again. DUUH, I had put the new belt on and left the disengagement part in the wrong position and it was rubbing on the belt. Now I have two Panasonics and like the old one with bags better than the new one. Here's the site, they also sell Dyson, and I'm pretty sure they're located in Texas.
