I have a very bad habbit of jumping onto my tractor and taking off with the E brake still on . I never claimed to be a rocket scientist, Now my left rear brake does not work. ( I wonder why? )
Is there some kind of adjustment on the brakes so i can get some pedal back or am I just out of luck and need new ones?

There are adjusting rods connected to your brake pedals (one on each side of the tractor). Yours consists of two threaded rods, stop nuts and a turnbuckle in the center. You should have space to thread rod "IN" to shorten the travel to compensate for brake shoe wear. If you have little or no adjustment then you need new brake shoes.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one . See attached. Note that there are two other adjustments in addition to the linkage.

BruceR,

Excellent attachment. I had forgotten about reversing shoes and pivot. And it does add years of shoe life...thanks for catching that.

I must add that i too frequently take off with my parking brake still on...... and with that in mind, it (the other adjustments) may not add "years" to the life of of MY brakes ! Hopefully more seat time will cure me !

I have done that a couple of times too. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Now my left pedal wants to stick a little. I just pull it back with my foot. I hardly ever use the brakes so its not that big of a deal.

hey, thanks for the attachment. I'm glad to know I'm not the only dumb *** ! here . I have doen this quite a bit and I'm afraid I have ruined the shoes.

If that dosen't do the trick, Aaron has a new set of brakes listed on ebay for a pretty good price.

If the shoes have never been reversed, (they wear mostly on 1 end), doing so, reversing the anchor pin, possibly replacing the springs, clean-up, and you are good to go for another 20 years.
