My YM2500 has no brakes at all for the left wheel.
The right side works ok, but I can press the left brake pedal with my foot as far as I want and I have no brakes.
From looking at the parts breakdown, I’m pretty sure I can do this myself if I take my time. Hopefully, Fredricks will send me the parts under warranty.

I do have some questions though.

How tough of a job is this?

I know the wheel has to come off, but what about the ROPS? Does it have to come off? If the ROPS has to co

Are there any special tricks and do you have any tips?

I’m aware about the old shoes & brake dust having Asbestos.

Thank You and I hope you All Have a Blessed Weekend!!

John deere 850 should be the same setup. You should be able to Reverse the shoe if there worn. Only one end of the Brake pad wears and the end that is pinned usually is like new! I'm guessing you may find a broken spring etc. causing a problem.
My YM2000 which I had to replace a leaking Rear wheel seal. Fredricks sent a new Collar which I opted to leave it on for the minimal wear on it. You need
a extra long set of pulleys to get it off! Pressed on basically so look at you seals Etc. while your in there. Not much to it. YM-2500 Brake shoe is a BS-4130.

Should you need to remove the ROPS, you will need to first take of BOTH rear fenders. The YM2500 and my YM2610 share the same CP Group-7 ROPS. So does the Deere JD850, JD950, and the like.

The same rear wheels on the YM2500 are on the YM2610 and YM2620. They are HEAVY.

If you have an engine hoist and ratchet tie-downs, it makes the removable and install very easy for the wheels.

When you remove the BOLTS and washers from the wheel, you may need replacement the split lock washers. Over time the washers loose their set. I've replaced 8 so far. Nobody had them in town except Fastenal for the size and Grade-8.

I replaced the brakes on my 336d this last summer, I ended up removing the fenders, unbolting the ROPS and backhoe subframe, and moving both of those out of the way. There's just one corner of the subframe that blocks the brake covers on mine, so that's the minimum I could do to access it. Pretty straightforward job, had to fit the replacement shoes but they work great now. I had one shoe completely worn out and the other one had a frozen pivot. I degreased the covers and pivots, and soaked them in Evaporust for a few days, then scrubbed and repainted. Now if I can get the parking brake lever to work, I'll be in good shape. Just been too cold out to work on it. I didn't document the brakes and other work I had to do to get it home, since I was at a friend's farm, but from here out I will shoot some video and take photos to share my hamfisted attempts at repairs.

The Ym2500 is straight forwards also BS-4130 and the 4 speed PTO reflects that. only 3 models use the shoes 2200,2500,2700. Rops I can't recall having to remove or the fenders.
The 336 uses shoes BS-4152 336,2610,3110,3810. I can't imagine much difference though?
