Regarding the stupid I mentioned earlier, if you get in an argument with one, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

On our way home yesterday, we decided to have lunch on the road rather than fix it before we left. We stopped at a local gas station with food, parked outback, sitting at an outside table eating our lunch when an older van pulled in with jetski on trailer behind. They were suspicious from the get go, they parked at pump clearly marked "out of order" and were having an obscenity filled argument. A scraggly looking guy gets out and still cursing at the others in van, walks away. He went around the corner of the business and I said to myself, I am parked back there with bicycles, kayaks, tools, travel trailer, etc and that guy is up to no good. I got up and went over the corner to have a look, he was walking away from the other side of the rig, nothing in his hands. The van left a short while later and headed toward the direction the suspicious guy had gone. I went and checked my truck and trailer, all was fine, I was so glad I am in the habit of locking things up, including bikes on carrier.

There was a bunch of stupid in that van, but some smart thieves. Before they came in, a city dweller pulled up to pump that was out of order. His passenger window was down so I spoke up and told him pump was out of order. He thanked me and proceeded to exit his car, open is gas cap and reach for the gas hose. He finally comprehended what I told him, got in his car and drove around to another pump (could have backed up 20' much easier)....

What I'm trying to figure out is why you all keep referring to it as early onset curmudgeon-hood, ain't a one of you [nor myself] all that young as far as I can tell, so maybe it's just the appropriate time for us to no longer "suffer fools gladly".

Well, we didn't say we just now contracted it, mine is a long standing chronic condition, Lord help me if it becomes, ACS (Acute Curmudgeon Syndrome), I fear it may be rapidly heading in that direction.:)

Mine is the older I get the dumber the younger generation gets.

I'm glad you think so too, I thought it might just be me. LOL They're not nearly as smart as we were when we were that age.

Sounds like you qualify for the same badge my son gave me...

I've got an IOOB membership card somewhere. I met someone on a flight to or from Alaska years ago and he figured I qualified so he put me in for membership. I've been an old bastard since I was 30 or so and getting more so by the day.

We went camping this last weekend, older couple in next site had a nice dog, barked at everything, they seldom tried to stop it. Off leash often. We went to the lake (walked, not far) and when we came back, there was a pile of dog poo on grass where their dog frequented, they had a large party going on, so I quietly said to the wife, could you do me a favor and pick up the dog poo your dog left before someone steps in it? She started giving me all sorts of attitude, I was ready to do some educating, but the husband stepped in and said, I'll clean it up, no problem, I have the technology. He immediately went to it and took care of it. As he went to the dumpster to get rid of it, the wife started in again, some nerve, assuming it was our dog and so on... I was on the other side of my trailer by then and responded with "BS" loud enough for the whole party to hear. That ended it. She knew that her dog did that mess and was too lazy to clean it up, her husband was ready and interesting point, knew exactly where it was without having it pointed out...

Kids were cutting through our campsite, explained to them to go around next time, one tried to come through again, wife set them straight. We not getting grumpy, we're getting tired of folks disrespect and laziness when it impacts us.

Neighbor on other side ran the black tank cleanout the whole weekend, with the black tank valve open. Saturday night, the black tank plugged up and while they were working on it, the whole place stunk like open sewer. They did not speak much english so I did not try to educate them, just kept our trailer closed up and ran air conditioning all night to keep us cool. For those that don't know, even when connected to sewer, you keep the black tank valve shut until 2/3 or more full, then dump, then close valve again. If you leave it open, eventually (usually sooner than later), it will plug up because the liquid drains faster and leaves the solids behind. When you let it fill up some first, then it dumps fine.

I tell my daughters that the key is to determine if you are dealing with ignorance or stupid. Ignorance can be cured by education in some cases, but stupid is just stupid.

As they say "you can't fix stupid". I define stupid as wilful continued ignorance. Ignorance is OK because everyone was ignorant of everything at one time but when they just won't learn or don't want to learn better, then they've moved into the stupid category and they're beyond all hope.

Taylor is not that old.

But I've had EOCS for over 40 years, since my mid 20's. Especially with car sales people. Last month I went to check out the "fit" of a Ford Transit Connect. Sales person tried to chat me up. I told him just get a key to a transit connect and let me sit in it. Luckily he shut up before I walked.

I don't care to waste my hearing listening to chattering fools.

/edit - I guess I now have Advanced Curmudgeon Syndrome. Last guy that came to my door trying to sell "home repair" service I just said "Don't need any" and firmly shut the door in his face.

I wasn't really throwing stones, I just thought the early onset label was kinda funny, especially since my dad [very literally] started calling me his curmudgeon when I was 8 or 9 years old.

Car "salesmen" don't count as their influence strategies are older than you are!

Why a "salesman" with no base salary who has to work nights and weekends by standing around waiting for people to walk in think they are something, I've never figured out.
