Years ago, I remember the guy who took the pic because we were out back sighting in his deer rifle. I'm in my 50's and use glasses, can't use open sights now past 100 yards now LOL

THIS is why I moved to the country. Pic is of nephew taken years ago. He loved shooting so much that he's now stationed in Germany. Don't think a HOA would allow this:laughing:

I use to live in Rome, Syracuse and Watertown at different points in my life. NY is a BEAUTIFUL state, but no way in haydes would I ever move back there with there. I also don't miss lake effect snow LOL

A lefty shooting an M1A1! Just kidding, I'm so used to seeing only right handed shooters, even through my long military service, I only knew just a few left handed shooters and most of them carried and qualified with pistols.

One of my grandsons is right handed, but left eye dominant. I tried everything under the sun to teach him how to shoot right handed, nothing worked so we started teaching him how to shoot left handed. He can do it now but we need to work on his accuracy this summer.

I shoot pistol left handed, but long gun right handed. Left eye dominant.
Why? well, when and where I grew up, there were no such things as left hand guns, guitars, or banjos. Left handed? Grandpa didnt care, he taught me how to shoot long gun and play guitar right handed.
Later in life, I learned pistol left handed because the circumstances allowed for such a thing.

I dont think it has had a negative impact - in fact, I do quite well when transitioning from long gun to handgun under a timer - I can reach for the pistol while I am stowing the rifle in a more efficient manner.

Yea, my DI's didn't care for the fact that I was and am a left handed shooter.
Fortunately they quit worrying about that the first day of live fire,
I qualified as expert every year with the M14, carried the 16 in country,
tried to qualify my last year with it didn't make my expert, bitched and got a 14 back to expert.
I can do decent with a pistol in either hand.
Left handed rifle shooting, get ready for hot brass down the shirt and ignore it. :thumbsup:

I'm left handed, but right eye dominant. It's just natural to pick up a rifle or pistol right handed for me. And it's kinda handy when I have to fiddle with a gun, because I'm holding it with my right hand and my lefty is free to do the fiddling, and it's way more coordinated than the right hand. But I shoot bow left handed, but can't aim worth a darn. I'm a horrible archer. :laughing:

I have noticed quite a few TV shooting show hosts and utube video hosts are left handed shooters. Way more than I'd have thought.

I shoot left. Blind in my right eye. Always been that way, so I know no difference.

To be fair - the HOA's I've read were all set up with good intentions. These were set up by the developers of the subdivisions. THEN the homeowners became involved. Each with their own set of values. What could have been good turned into a horror story, in many cases.

It's alway been somewhat of a curiosity for me. I live on 80 acres. The closest HOA is over ten miles away. I will die on my 80 acres. I would resist moving into any kind of development with small lots, HOA or not, with every fibre in my body.

Besides - my developed ways are just to "country" to fit into any type of established community.

To be fair - the HOA's I've read were all set up with good intentions.

To be fair, most laws originated with good intentions as well.

I'd argue :2cents: that the lever action, external hammer, top eject rifles they started making in the 1800's are about the most ambidextrous of rifles.
Most lever action or pump actions are pretty ambidextrous. Granted, then the safety location, release switches, and ejection can be an issue.

When it comes to safeties that are on the trigger guard it gets a little confusing, I always have to stop and think "how would a righty do this?

Mossberg 500. on the tang and works just as well for a righty and a lefty...
