Good comments dodge man. Yeah, we're a little off topic on the tower stuff. I'd sure try to score free internet for life off of this, but it's unlikely the people that do the easement contract stuff would have any idea how to put that together.
Skyco, I'm wonder what the hidden cost of trades not co-operating is. You'd think that if the power is buried, they would coordinate with telco to put a 2nd conduit in for the fiber. But code, practice, and habit has them totally separate and we don't take advantage of the nature of fiber. But we love to complain about lack of efficiency and inflated costs in various walks of life.
schmism: yep, that's how it works. I was looking at .6 watts 1" from your brain vs. 40 watts 500 feet from your brain, which is the equivalent of about 8 milliwatts with generous worse case assumptions (my real world guess would be less than 1 milliwatt). The phone gets you more than the tower. And the amount you get from the tower 24x7 is way below anything that is known to cause problems. The closer the phone is to the tower, the more receive energy it gets (as you correctly noted) and the less power it puts out. Cell phones adapt their transmit power so it's only just what's needed to reach the cell tower. So the closer you are to the tower, the lower the phone output power. Tower power is the same, but that's not where any hazard might be. So the more towers you have the less exposure you get. Of course if you don't have a cell phone all towers are evil and slowly killing you, or so many say.
