At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Florence was
located near latitude 24.5 North, longitude 55.8 West. Florence is
moving toward the west near 6 mph (9 km/h), and this general motion

intensification is likely to begin by tonight. Florence is forecast
to become a major hurricane on Monday.

This could be the Real Schlemeil gang. East coasters need to be watching this VERY closely and begin making plans in the next few days.

Could be another Hugo. :hurricane:

That is what has me concerned. Hugo did a job on Charlotte but Fran and Floyd really put a hurt to eastern and central NC. Course, this is another F storm.

We are making preparations and yesterday I saw people in the store buying water. We will start filling tubs and such in a few days. I put fresh batteries in one radio yesterday and started charging the weather radio this morning. Will have to buy some gas for the chainsaw and generator this week. We were talking about where to park the cars before the storm hits.

I really hate these storms and the odds look good that we will have high winds from the north. We have trees leaning from when Fran came through, and if Florence tracks like I am afraid it will, those leaning trees are going to fall. The trees wont hurt anything but it might take a while to cut our way out.

Fran put a real hurt on the forests in central NC. There is an old quarry built through a ridge in Raleigh. After Fran, they brought in down trees in that quarry and chipped them. The mounds of chipped wood filled in the quarry. Twas unreal. There was so many chips they were just dumping them along side the road in places.

Later,
Dan

Current ETA is Thursday night and/or Friday morning. Plenty of time for track to change.

Fingers eyes cross she huffs and puffs out sharp right.

Rain before the winds is major reasons for the amount of down trees. We were hit by Hugo and had trees down and some heavy building damage. But Hurricane Matthew, a Cat 1 hit us two years ago with rain and rain before the Cat 1 winds and we had as much if not more trees down as with Hugo.

Yes it is a concern. We are about 20 miles west of Myrtle Beach.

This is one of those that only people along the coast can decide on what to do. It's a week away and anything can happen, but it isn't forecast to turn as far as I know. Waiting until Wednesday or Thursday to see if it turns or not could leave no time to prepare or evacuate.
