East Coast: Hurricane Florence

Are we moving from weather discussion to the mental state of adult behavior? :)

And this is not permissible? No matter how riveting a subject, it gets stale after a few posts. I find it complimentary if one of my posts generate enough interest to stimulate some peripheral discussions.

There was a baby that drowned when her mother drove around a sign/barrier and into flooded water. Mother survived.

There was at least one family down east that was trapped in the attic. Or so they said. I think they were in New Bern and there was no excuse for them to stay since the storm surge was known. If they were stuck in the attic, then the water was pretty deep.

My area is north of the flooded areas but we got so much rain that we still have road and bridge closures due to flooding. Some of these roads are pretty minor but others are major highways.

In Floyd, I helped during the rescue and recovery phase. The crops turned BLACK in the water. Best guess this was from all of the chemicals and sewage in the flood waters. I was at one place during the rescue phase and we stopped at the edge of the water. It REEKED with sewage and chemical smells. There was a flooded out sewage plant up stream....

There were guys on ATVs riding in that mess.:shocked: NO reason to be out riding and it was dangerous for a variety of reasons.

During the recovery, I went back to that area and helped clean out a flooded house. The house was 2-3 feet above grade and the water was 3-4 feet in the house. When we got there, the elderly couple were starting to clean out and they had paid some guys to help. We showed up and finished. The woman had just finished chemo and her being in that moldy air and touching stuff soaked in sewage was horrible. At least we got it done for them. That was the last house we had to clean up and we left a carton of N95 mask for them. Felt pitiful leaving them just some masks but they were so grateful that someone had come to help them out.

I threw away my boots and gloves after helping clean up from Floyd. The tools we used where put in the wheel barrow which was fill with Pinesol and water. :D

This area was forecast to get hit with storm surge again. And I am sure the rain did even more damage. The area is well away from the coast by the way. South of us just mostly recovered from Mattew and Flo was even worse.

Later,
Dan

Any reports from boots on the ground? Someone posted about some contractors were scheduled to leave of the area yesterday. The news media stories are not what I am about. I know it must be bad and maybe the people are still the only phase of trying to save and property may come later. Looks like our area buyers of flooded cars are going to have a heyday. I think they have got most of the recent TX flood vehicles resold. One guy told me the drivelines were doable but the computer modules were a nightmare to sort through and get error free.
