OK, I found the correct bolts and removed same and the cowling came loose. There's still a lot of things to do. First totally disconnect the battery leads. Second I have a Kubota LA 682 FEL and there is no way the cowling is coming straight out. If you don't have that model FEL you might just luck out. The best you can do with the LA 682 is lift and push the sheet metal to the left side. But wait, those stupid cheap looking reflectors are in the way. Loosen the 8mm nuts on the reflectors and they can be pulled out and the cowling pulled as far left as you can for maximum clearance on the right No need to totally remove the nuts. While you're at it, remove the reflector on the right side as well as you're going to need the clearance when you pull the battery out on the right side which is the only way because of the box it sits in. Remove the battery clamp completely from the tractor. The remaining part of the front assembly can be easily pulled forward for clearance. I stuck a very short 2x4 in the gap to keep it sprung as far open as I could. From the right side of the tractor pull the battery towards you. When it goes as far as it can, lift the battery with the tips of your fingers till it is almost vertical. It is going to be a very close fit. The battery caps hang up on part of the air cleaner or whatever that round black plastic cylinder is. Strong fingers are a major advantage. Use those strong fingers to work the battery out of the gap between the FEL and engine housing. Be prepared; it's heavy and slimy. Now you should have the bloody thing out resting on part of the FEL. Get a good grip and put it on a safe surface. Make totally sure the battery you buy is absolutist no taller than the original battery or it just flat won't go in. Now go have fun!
