Tractor
too many
Listed a tractor on ebay in December, kind of a dumb time to
try to sell something but figured what the hey. Got some nibbles
from direct emails but no takers on ebay.

Was going to relist tractor, DON'T NEED TO IT'S ALREADY LISTED!

Someone else downloaded my pics, even some of my text in the
same HTML and listed MY tractor that is currently sitting in
MY garage.

They didn't link to the 15 or so web pages I set up showing more
info and pics but 6 of the pics are there.

Totally blew me away. Contacted ebay, no answer yet.

So if you buy something on ebay be sure to use the escrow
services and watch your behind.

I had another case where I bought something "new" turned out
to be "used" seller said to ship back and they'd refund, they
didn't, I've dealt with the guy so was patient, now no email
replies. If you wait too long ebay won't help you. You have to
be kind of an impatient type I guess or forget ebay's help. That
was only $100, I'll get my pound of flesh one way or another.

But this fake listing, wow...

Just thought I'd pass it along.

That seems to be really common lately with tractors on there. You often see shots of tractors that are obviously on dealer lots, sometimes they aren't even the right model or year. I even saw one where they included a picture of a plastic toy snowblower to represent the blower it supposedly came with. A lot of them come with "free shipping" anywhere in the US and are on recent models with huge markdowns.

Del, I hope this wasn' you but today I looked on eBay and found a Kubota for sale. The seller said "has the Hydrostatic Transmission (HST) with 6 speeds, and the Shuttle Shift Lever that allows you to shuttle between forward and reverse without using the clutch".... so I'm rollin my eyes, further down he posts a WILD correction and an explanation that the tractor is a GST.

Point being, he clearly states he's used the tractor for over a year but doesn't know what kinda tranny he's using? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was about to start a new thread entitled "Has Anyone ACTUALLY ever bought a tractor form eBay?"

You did it for me kinda.

If it's too good to be true, you can find it on eBay.

I just bet Corriher Tractor has sold a lot of units because of eBay and the Internet. They are really nice folks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nope, my only Kubota's here to stay. I've seen those ads
too, at least they should mention it's their uncle's tractor
or whatever!

Unfortunately the guy that is doing this isn't accessing the
pictures on my website's server he has downloaded them and
then reloaded them to ebay. If it was still on my server I'd
alter the pictures for him and have some fun.

I just talked to the TLB I am selling, she said she will be
glad to dig a hole in the ground to put this chump if we could
catch him. (or her or it).

I also from another ad I placed received one of the increasingly
common offers to buy it at the listed price.

"I'm sending a cashiers check for too much, refund the difference
to my bank account in Estonia or wherever."

You can usually spot them, they are many times in all caps,
or all lower case, with lots of spelling/grammatical errors.

Person doesn't ask the normal expected questions.

I think when I relist tractor again I'll also do away with
the "sending a deposit" business. I'll just give them x amount
of time to deal with it so they don't have to give me 10 cents
until they see the tractor. I've suggested before to folks to
pay to have a local tractor dealer send a guy out to do a quick
check to at least see that the tractor exists, runs, lifts, whatever.

Seems like money well spent.

I hope ebay resolves this quickly. I've heard of sellers being
skunked by Paypal, which ebay recently bought a big chunk of.
Internet chatter says things can still be dismal, accounts locked
for no reason, money lost. There are all kinds of sites appearing.
(paypalsucks.com I think was one.)

A new age I guess, or is it 16th century bandits with web access?

del,
I did sell one on eBay myself. I think the transaction went very well, except for all the bogus e-mails I received. Sold it to a nice guy down in Tenn. We agreed upon a pick-up date and time, but he called a week sooner and wanted to pick it up the next day, he was going to be in the area. Told him......"Fine, if your postal money orders arrive before YOU do" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
I was able to pick them up on the way home at the post office and he was waiting on me when I got there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great transaction, hope he's as pleased with it as I was.

Inspector 507.

Thanks, that's encouraging. Good move on the postal mo's
beforehand, to give you time to verify with the PO they
are not fakes.

These days, cashiers checks and most mo's are easily faked
or counterfeited. I'll accept gold bars, but of course
only if an assayer is standing by! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've heard cashiers checks should not be considered good
for two weeks, same as money orders unless you are dealing
with a bank that has a local branch you can draw the cash
out from.

This auction isn't just a matter of someone stealing my
pictures to sell their tractor, they are attempting to sell
only diesel smoke as the tractor is too unique for there to
be another one. He even used all my text with MY comments.

If he was smarter he'd have taken a picture of some tractor
sitting my someone's house, not one already used on ebay, and
only a month ago. I hope the majority of the scammers are that
stupid.

I sold a tractor on e bay this past fall and required the bidder to place a $500 deposit by PayPal into my account within 24 hours and to pay for it in full within 7 days. Got all the money and it was picked up as required within the 7 days.... Paid cash for the balance and was pleased to get the tractor. You just have to know how to weed out the slime balls that frequent auctions and pay with fraudulent funds. Postal money orders are the way to go because you can cash them at the post office and if they are bad, it isn't your problem. They are supposed to check them before cashing.

I've bought a bunch of stuff on e-bay, usually hard to find parts for cars ect. but I have gotten some cr@p which should have been more clearly identified. I was susposed to be getting orriginal printed electrical dia form elarly ford, what I got was photo copies of something that more or less resembled a picture of underhood stickers...

oh well. anyhow I have gotten some good ddeals on grill parts and furnace parts there. also a few other items. mostly computer stuff .

anyhow how about a link to the post the guy has, ebay item #? we can flood his e-mail asking tons of bogus questions. LOL
