Ebay users ???

Been using Ebay and Paypal over 10 years now. Not a high volume buyer or seller but a couple hundred over the years. Had only 1 problem where someone bid up an item and never paid. I filed a dispute with ebay, took 3 or 4 weeks but got all the transaction fees refunded.

My biggest problem is the 10% seller fees that can add up on a big ticket item. Same with paypal, 3% fee but no billing issues over the years.

For a few years there were bogus emails made to look like ebay or paypal requesting you to logon through their link. Those always go straight to the trash as my frequency is so low I would know if I had a transaction issue.

Thanks the the added tips. I have filters, plus a good email virus "checker"

Also, good note on the Paypal Pixguy

What is that bill you later thing, is that ebay or bogus vending.? or is that part of the paypal system?

I may just go with a CC not sure. But I can figure that out later if I find something I need, I can go ahead and bid correct? I will have to go find the FAQS on ebay I guess, main thing was the security standpiont. Thanks guy's

I have been using ebay since 1999 and no issues. Paypal is getting a bit of a bad rap but ebay was a serious pain the @$$ to use before Paypal. Transactions are much more secure now. They had a escrow service for bit but that was a expensive joke and then Paypal came along.

Ebay is a great place to find odd-ball stuff. I've only been burned once in many years of usage and that early on when I made the mistake of paying with a money order. At least it was small money. Since then I only use Paypal which has got me money back when I received something that didn't work as listed. I now use Paypal whenever possible, many websites take it now and it's so painless. I have it set to take money out of a debit card that is only used for online transactions. I only put the amount needed into that account so if something happens it's not a huge deal, it's also protected by the bank. I don't get much for SPAM. I have never used the pay later thing although it often asks, I don't need another line of credit so I pass. Happy shopping!

Well I just bought a BRAND NEW John Deere 4720 with all the gadgets from a place, it was only $15k and they said that paypal has this new 7 day money back guarantee and that I should be getting the tractor as soon as they have ALL my money!!!!:laughing::laughing:

In all seriousness, PayPal is good, its those jokers that abuse it who screw everything up that is bad.

I opened up a special, separate credit card just for eBay/paypal. i set a $250.00 limit on it, so if the data is ever filched, i wont have any issues that will amount to much. If i ever need an item greater than $250 i simply do an online credit advance to my card. nothing can be easier.

Its with capital one, so they will also work to resolve any issues. I didn't want to give PayPal any of my personal bank account info or my business credit card with a $100,000 credit line on it.

This way no matter what happens my exposure is small. I don't get any spam email at all.

I have bought items and products on Ebay without any problems at all. I have purchased around 30-40 items, the highest priced was $800.00. If my memory serves me correctly, PayPal is now owned wholly by Ebay. I am not 100%certain, but I remember reading a notification that mentioned it.

This is the best advice going.

Contrary to what some people say, PayPal (which is owned by Ebay) is not like other credit cards. It is not a CC company and they don't follow certain rules CC companys are require to by Law. If you do go with them (PP) and provide them a bank account number, it is possible (and has happened) to have them freeze your account if there is a problem with the transaction. How would you like to have access to your own funds blocked because someone made a false claim against you?

eBay is great. Use paypal and you will be fine. Great place to get good deals. Stick to sellers that have very high ratings and you will be set! Happy auctioning!

I have over 500 sales and somewhat more buys on EBay.
Had 3 buy issues, one minor never resolved, 2 more major and resolved to my satisfaction although slow and frustrating to follow thru.
Using Paypal and a CC gives double protection as the CC co can also step in in the case of frauds.
Being in Canada the biggest issue is customs and related fees
The only reasonable shipping option is USPS for us.
A couple of times I have had an American seller use UPS when he stated USPS and the end result was fees totaled more than the price of the item.
All in all I have been very happy with EBay and paypal.
NB; I had many repeat clients and biggest sale was over $6000. (with payment via percolator within 24 hrs.)
Worst experiences were all Purolator related, but then that is perhaps because of trans border transactions.
One P--- employee was fired over the issues.
2 bad experiences resulted in sellers being banned from EBay after my being refunded.
What I have noticed is that there are more and more 'stores' and less profiteering on EBay.
All in all a great place to find those rare items.
(and lots of tractor related items at great $$$)
