They only show this for the top handle, would it just direct the exhaust onto the hands on a rear handle?
I have the ported exhaust on my 2511 and it made a ton of difference. The pipe come off out and down so I wouldn't think it would blow back on your hand. It was well worth the money though.

Compare it to the Stihl top handle at 700 clams and it's a cheap date. They don't 'breathe' well stock but the addition of a 30 buck ported muffler and they really go to town. I now have 3 Echo's, the CS top handle, the Timber Bear and a Echo brush trimmer. I run canned gas in all of mine, Echo Red Armor, 50-1.

Menards has bar oil on sale this week, $5.99 a gallon mine the 100% rebate. Hard to beat the warranty too. 5 years consumer.
Are you sure you don't mean the timberwolf? :D I have that one as well and it's been a great saw for the last 15 or so years. It's stock though as I can't bring myself to mod it as it was my late father's saw. I picked up a new 4910 a couple months back. Dropped the squish down on it, ported the muff, and now it screams and will cut right with my 261 or 550.

Not at all (I have one as well) and I did the muff on that one plus a Nick Stokel foam air cleaner and his velocity stack. Mine pulls full bar (20") ripping in oak, no issue. I never screw with internals as a rule.

Wolf, bear, whatever, all the same thing actually. It does what it's supposed to do.... cut wood.

Did you cut the top cover or you running it without the cover? Did it make a big difference for ya?

I didn't 'cut' it, I took a die grinder and removed the spot welds and removed the top baffle but left the spark arrestor screen intact. I get no carbon build up with Red Armor canned fuel so it's still there, just minus the final baffle plus I drilled 3 holes in the internal baffle where the exhaust goes into the muffler, 3 3/8" diameter holes. Sounds real nice and really no louder than before and I didn't have to remove the limiter caps either. I did on the CS top handle when I exchanged the muff, however.

"cut" was a general term.... I use my die grinder constantly on my saws.

I am surprised you did not have to pull the limiter caps. Any time there is a change in air or fuel, you typically need to make some adjustments.... The Echos run very lean already and then opening up the air flow is gonna make them even worse....

Tough question to answer. It's quite a bit louder but doesn't bother me. Although, I already have hearing damage from years of range time without hearing protection....
