I had a dealer here. Now I don't. I purchased mine from a dealer selling on e-bay.( better price) I just use mine around the house ( non commerical use). I have had it for about 3 yrs now & have had no problems.

Again , If it matters to you .Which ever brand you choose,, Check where each MFG. rate their CFM'S. At the tube or the housing

I have been using the CFMs at pipe and not the CFMs at pump.

I did look at Stihl's BP blowers. They use a 4 stoke design, but a 2 stroke gas mix system. To me it seems like a alot of parts for something that is ran at high RPMs.

I have an Echo backpack -- don't know the model -- and it works pretty well.

The only thing I would think about is that the backpack design is very well suited for large areas, but a PITA for only a few hundred square feet. I can't reach the choke and pull rope with it on my back, once it is started and the choke adjusted back to open, it bounces around on the ground until I pick it up.

Getting the shoulder straps right is never easy for me.

Once it is going and on, I can use it with no problem until it runs out of gas.

I find myself reaching for the old Homelite hand held for small jobs, even though it is not as good a machine.

The Stihl's produce alot more torque so they don't need to be run at as high a RPM as a normal 2 stroke. They sounds like there always running half throttle but you get used to it. I bought a BR600 3 weeks ago and it runs like a raped ape, its the best $500 I've ever spent. It blow leaves like theres no tomorrow whether it's wet or dry. I chose it based on Stihls reputation with chainsaws even though they had problems with 4 mix blowers at first, it also had the highest amount of CFM at the end of the pipe. Most of that problem was because conventional 2 stroke oil causes carbon to buildup in the head and thats the worst thing for them. Now they have Stihl Ultra oil (synthetic) out which makes them much happier. I have run Amsoil Saber 2-stroke oil at 80:1 with 89 gas and have been very satisfied with that as well.

Just curious but does the Stihl 4-mix call for 80:1? Neighboor accross the street bought one last year and that thing does blow like a tornado. My 12+ year old Echo runs great but smokes so much I'm ready for the oxygen tank after an hours use. Since I switched to the Stihl 2-stroke oil, it's run better than it has in a long time power wise, but it seems to smoke more. Wonder if the Stihl oil is slowly cleaing out carbon deposits?? I had always run the Echo synthetic oil in it per the dealer's recommendation, then about 5-6 years ago, I go in to buy some and they tell me they don't recommend it. Never said why they changed positions so I'm wondering if the Echo stuff was causing issues.

Either my Echo gets cleaned out and smokes less, I get one of those 4-mix units, or I get asphyxiated blowing leaves one of these years.

No it calls for 50:1 of Stihl's Ultra oil. But I have been using Amsoil Saber 2-stroke oil for the last few months as it gives better lubrication at lower mix ratio's than what conventional could ever give at it's recommended ratio, is cleaner burning, and I can mix one oil and use it in everything. There are various other benefits also, such as it's cheaper than dealer oil. Amsoil says you can mix it with gas at 100:1, run it in anything and it will be fine, but from what I have found the concensus is, run it at 80:1 and that gives you bit of a cushion, so to speak. I was hesitant about it at first, so I tried it in a POS poulan blower I have had for ever that I didn't mind losing it didnt work right. I have always had trouble with this blower wanting to run WO with the choke fully off and powering up without stalling ever since it was new. I had always run regular oil at 40:1 in it and usually it took about 10 - 15 minutes of running at half choke to get it to run WO with the choke all the way off.

The first tank of Amsoil at 80:1 & 89 gas, it took about 1 minute on half choke for it to start running WO w/ the choke fully off and I also noticed much better acceleration from the throttle. I have run about 5 tanks through it and every tank from now on it starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull, doesn't smoke, runs about 10 seconds on half choke and it's ready to go WO with no choke. I'll never run anything else as far as 2 stroke oil again, I have been very impressed by it.

I have run about 4 - 5 tanks through the BR600 and it runs flawlessly. The 4-mix design doesn't like carbon buildup and a conventional oil or a high mix ratio of regular oil will cause irregular buildup. If you get one, try this oil on it, you'll be very pleased. It's definately a cleaner burning oil as well, I never see any smoke.

I also run Amsoil HD 15w-40 diesel oil in 1 of my 3 diesel vehicles. I ran that in it for a whole year on just Amsoil's spin on filter. After about 12,000, which was how far it went in a year, I had an oil analysis done on the oil and it came back within normal standards. I did this a couple months ago and refilled it again with there diesel oil and we'll see how it goes this time around.

WH401,

Thanks for the response. I'm going to take a look at the Amsoil Sabre 2-stroke oil. May try the 80:1 like you and see if that cuts the smoking down to a reasonable level. Also, I've been running 87 octane and it looks like it wants 89, so maybe that's an issue too.
