Just yesterday I visited with an old friend that is a big time Ford guy and he has just a year under his belt on a 2011 Eco. 16200 miles. So of course I asked him how he liked it. Said he will not buy another, no problems but his mileage has been 15-16 in town and 19-20 on the highway, not what he expected. Truck has given him no problems, just not getting anything special in the fuel mileage dept. He did speak to his dealer that he gives high praises to, and the dealer told him that what he is getting is average.

Why is he disappointed, that is what Ford claims? He should be getting 18mpg average which is right inline with what others are getting.

Is it a 2wd or 4wd?

Crew cab, 4WD, 3.55 rear.

He is a guy that sqeezes a dollar harder than anyone I know. He bought into the hype that this motor will give 24+ mpg on the highway. He has a camp in northern Maine and drives a lot of highway miles. He just got back from a trip up there, average was 18.1 running speeds of between 65-78 mph. He says if he runs 60 he can get 21, maybe 22 on a good day. Certainly seems like nothing special in my book.

As stated he likes the truck, just do not believe the fuel mileage claims.

His words, not mine. Bottom line is that he is not getting appreciable better mileage than he did with his 4.6. His thoughts were he would have better power AND better mileage, the power part is true, mileage was not.

His thoughts are somewhat correct. Actually Ford says V6 mileage and V8 power. The V8 power is supposed to be compared to a 6-6.2 liter engine not a 4.6 liter. Had he bought a 6.2 liter his mileage would have been considerably worse with the same towing capacity. If mileage was so important, should have bought the 3.7 liter.

Sometimes these car companies forget who makes them successful-the consumer. Overall, the EB is a good engine. There are bad ones in every group. Personally, i do not like it. A little too complex for me. My 5.3 Chevy does fine for what i need.
Sounds like that one had a bad #4 coil pack which caused weirdness (caused the ECU to lean out the mix to make the average have the right O2 ratio with one cylinder dumping unburned gas out) and the dealer techs couldn't figure it out. No excuse for the rudeness on the part of the reps though.

You are right there is no reason for a rep to act like that. Also that rep was not very knowledgeable about her product.
