Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

This is a shot of the boot made for the 60 inch deck -
again I have not built the hopper yet - but I think it will work great - I mounted the outlet on the side that the blades turn towards - The tricky part was catching the flow from the last blade - we will see how it works and if I offset the taper enough - I think it will work good based on how it worked by just leaving it open and letting the grass blow out without the vacuum hooked up

As I noted in other posts - I also closed the front of the deck and added a removable baffle to aid in vacuum action

This is a shot of most attachments stored in the large shed I had to build for the unit

Thanks Charle - did you check out some of the mod's I did - that is what I love most about these tractors is that they are heavy duty steel and easy to modify

Ed,

Must say that you have a lot of ingenuity. Maybe you should consult to Power Trac.

Did you make the boot from scratch? Do you have a metal brake to bend your steel.

How and where will your hopper be mounted. Being able to suck up the leaves and clippings is something the PT line lacks.

Good job. Keep the posts and pictures coming.

Ed:
I sure did check your mods. You are having altogether too much fun.
When I was in the process of buying the 1845, I commented to Terry that the pin hitch on the back wasn't deep enough to handle farm equipment. His answer was "You can weld anything on there you want." As soon as I got it, I welded an old Reese 2" receiver hitch across the back. I sent pictures to Power Trac. Instead of cancelling the warranty in a huff, Terry's response was that it looked pretty good.
They won't jump up to help you modify things, but they don't object either, and, as you noted, they give you plenty of steel to hook things to.

Yes - should have removed that thing - it certainly does not belong - but no home is complete without one

Re: Ed\'s Pictures of 425 and attachments

hey Duane

For the boot, I needed to get assistance of a friend who has a break - it is fairly heavy sheet metal - did not want to put anything flimsy on the PT

For the hopper - I want to mount it on top of the engine compartment hood - I have to leave plenty of clearance for airflow to the cooler - I was thinking that six inches would be OK - I know that cooling is very important -

So basically I made a drawing of a steel frame with four posts and a rectangular frame to sit on top of the posts - the hopper would sit on top of the frame pad and be hinged in the rear with two heavy pins - the rear of the hopper would also have a hinged door -

The hopper would be dumped using hydraulic cylinders and the rear door wold also be opened using a hydraulic cylinder - For the hydraulic dump mechanism I planned on tapping into the Aux circuitcand mounting the controls on the hopper frame - I would use it basically while standing still so nothing else would be running.

Issues - The blower would also mount off the frame posts - so the hose to the deck would be fairly long - but I have seen this used in commercial mowing applications - So it should be OK - It has to be that way because you need a flex hose to deal with the tractors articulation

Cooling as I mentioned can't be affected

You need to be able to open the tractor hood without taking off the frame - The way I want to deal with this is by making the frame top wide enough and long enough to clear the hood when you open it - This way you simply raise the hopper to the dump position which will take a few seconds and open the hood - nice and easy

This will make for a large hopper - I was thinking probably 3.5 ft wide or so by 5 ft long by 18 inchs deep - it will have nice capacity - I will also taper the front to aid in the filling/packing process

Well I have held off since I am not sure if I am going to go to the 1430

Also - I want to be able to remove the frame quickly with a few pins - So I have to build that into the specs
