While rewiring my trailer I applied 12VDC to test each brake, this one did nothing. How do they work and where can I get parts? TIA

#1 is your electric magnet that when activated gets attracted to the inside surface of your 'moving' drum. This pulls the magnet to the right or left, can't tell in this pic.

#2 is the arm that the magnet is attached to and gets push to the right/left by the magnet.

#3 is a 'cam' that rotates from the arm movement and spreads the top portion of the brake shoes apart.

Chances are your magnet can be replace by itself.

For some types of axles you can get bolt on replacement brake units. These are almost as inexpensive as doing the replacement piecemeal.:D

Try Goggling Dexter axles and check out some sites.:D

I have purchased the Dexter brake replacement components at an RV dealer.:D

Wow! - Great Video.
After this explanation I'm going to clean all the rust from my brakes components and see if it works. If not I will replace the magnet. Thanks very much for the quick replies.

And by the looks of your shoes, going with a complete assembly vs just a new mag as the others have stated would be my path also.

I've used Etrailer many times before with 100% satisfaction.

Me being the electronic geek that I am wouldn't use those Scotch locks as shown in the video. I have had too many of them corrode over the years and not make good connections. I soldered my wires together to the brake wires. Just my two cents worth of wisdom.
