Have you used an Electric Fence to keep bear from livestock? How has it worked? Thanks Richard

Electric fence won't stop a hungry bear.

Aren't all those bear fences temporary, on new bears?

'valley wants one I'm sure for a fixed location.

A hungry bear will go through anything it can. Its like a dog with an invisible fence, if its want to get out, it will. It will learn and anticipate the shocks.

So true! There was a news story this week locally about a bear that tore the corner off a garage to get at the garbage. The homeowner had put the garbage in the garage, as people are told to do, to keep it away from the bears, but this guy was very determined. The TV story showed the whole portion of one wall torn right off.

I don't have any experience but a friend who owns a local eating establishment tried to put an electric fence around his garbage can area and the bears just walked through it like it wasn't there.

In S AZ the bee keepers spread thousands of hives across the countryside at all the permanate water holes.

There are plenty of bears in the SW deserts and they don't hibernate!

I have seen 40 -50 hives decimated by two bears in one night the largest piece of hive I could find was a quarter of a frame.

In bear area's they use five strands of barb wire on tee posts that are electrified with a solar powered charger, no more problems.

Anymore most of these bee's are the Africanized variety.

Have fun

My beehives were attacked by a bear last year. I put up an electric fence sold by premier that they sell as one to use for beehives. The charger I use is an ac one that puts out 6000 volts. It has worked so far. Of course its possible that someone shot the bear and the fence hasn't done anything.
