I used a DR 6-ton splitter for about 7 years splitting a couple of cords per season. I got tired of splitting on the ground and last year picked up an Airens 22 ton splitter, much easier on the back. I still use the DR splitter in the garage for down sizing firewood when I need to before bringing it into the house.
I wouldn't be using it hard and much. This winter will just be collecting for next season, as we just got this property this spring and it has a wood stove in living room. It will just be to complement the existing propane furnace until I get good and familiar with how it heats and collecting the wood and everything.
