Electric ZT

I dream of the day I get to replace my gas ZTR with an electric - no more gas cans, oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, belts, valve adjustments, noise, smell, carb problems, etc etc. I mow around 6-7 acres each week and the gas alone runs about $100 a month. Throw in all the maintenance and a $6,000 gas powered ZTR costs me roughly $20,000 (total) to operate over a 10 year lifespan. Even if an electric was twice the initial price and I had the replace the batteries every 5 years I bet I'd still come out ahead in those 10 years while enjoying all the other benefits mentioned.

I hope too. A lot to compare. 10 years is long now for any appliance unfortunately.

My wife’s EGO push mower battery has about half the power going into the 3rd season. What she could mow on one charge now half. No other mechanical problems. Sharpened the blade last year. Not used all that much. Still likes her Kubota.

If it can last another year on par with the cheap gassers. What worry’s me is all the little $2 parts that could go wrong and unable to source or repair and total the whole machine. Lot less manufacturers and repair shop help after warranty. Willing to gamble with a few hundred. $5,000 steep. That much power, current and force is going to wear parts. It might be a winner with enough owners figuring out and posting the repair hacks.

Already on the hunt for discarded electric machines to madmax into tractor based vegetation slicers and dicers.

One drawback I see with the Ryobi is their 'Twin Cut' blade system. I want single cutter blades that are easily and cheaply replaceable. I tend to replace blades every spring as my ground is sandy loam and it eats blades up.

Don't want to be buying high buck specialty blades when I can buy stock Oregon blades from ASC instead.

Owning drones with brushless prop motors, I'm familiar with extended battery life. cool running and less wearing parts, versus conventional motors.

Don't see a ton of failure points other than the packs pooping out eventually or the on board electronic controls going south. The frame and running gear are very conventional.

Not like the very infinite life of the current V twin engines where most lifetimes are under 1000 runtime hours and some are a lot less. Like the Kohler Courage on my wife's ZTR, it has burned oil from the get go and the dealer cannot fix it and it's a gas hog, just like the Kawasaki on mine. There engines drink gas like drunken sailors and that might have been ok last year but with regular pee being almost 5 bucks a gallon here, it's not acceptable anymore.

Do you mean the $47,000 one AFTER the $5K government rebte and taxes and hidden on the road fees and plates?

Other than the SLA battery in the Ryobi rider, I wonder if most of the proprietary mower battery packs aren't just cases for 18650 cells?

I don't know about the ZTR. I got the impression that the basic electric rider uses SLAs from this youtube video.

The new ones don't drop in packs of I presume Li-Ion batteries Was at my dealer today and he told me Cub Cadet has one as well. Never seen one however.
