Anyone know why a 12 AWG is allowed for a 20A 120v single phase circuit but 10 AWG is required for a 30A 2 phase 240v circuit? The 30A 240v is actually carrying less amps per wire than the 20A 120v.
60 replies and maybe I missed it but NOBODY questions the electrical knowledge of someone talking about a 2 phase circuit?

Yes , but the Power output to the resistive "short" is greater due less loss in the lines supporting the current.When the magnetic core of a 600V 100Kw is saturated during a dead short . The short current current is lower than a shorter 208V 100Kw transformer .
