Electricity to Barn (350 ft)

I just had a second meter installed to keep geo and hot water use seperate and they give a break on use. The monthly is 7.50 and $100 for the install.

On the farm were have the bins and out building on seperate meters and once again 7.50 per meter and $100 for the install. Ask your coop or power company the ussualy will be the cheapest and best work just don't expect them to do it the next day they're ussually weeks out with work.

powerstroke,

What electric company are you on? We put in electric for a new outbuilding at my folks farm and it was going to be a 40.00 monthly minimum for the second meter....

We ended up running 4/0 from the existing meter 150 feet away. Power HV pad transformer was less than 50 feet from the shed and we had to dig under the 7200 line feeding it.

My electrical coop charges $45/mo minimum for 2nd meters on Ag buildings...that's why i decided on running a feeder to my shop instead of separate services. It all depends on the rural service i guess.

My dads farm is on Ameren. They said since it was anything but another "house" then the minimum was around 40 a month for second meter. We decided to run from the existing meter instead.

Completed!

We spoke to the the power company again they said it would not be 65 per month but rather 35 but the recommended going from the house. They also said the bids we received were junk $$3,500 -- 5,000 and we should be able to get 135 amps.

so we got some more bids, and our final cost, by the person that did our house, was $2,500 and I am responsibile for covering the ditch.

They put 3 1/0 cables in and set it up for 125 amps. My son and I then used the ditch to run a wire for a future light pole and then we cover the wire with about a foot of dirt and dropped in two Cat 6 wires (1 for a phone and one for a wireless hub) per your alls suggestions. Now if it would just dry out I will finish filling in the ditch.

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS IT SAVED ME OVER $2,000.
