who else sets tools on your rear tire of the tractor while working on the machine, then you drive off leaving them on the tire to get mashed into the ground? :)

Ever crawl off of the tractor by unknowingly placing your hand in the dog turd that's mashed into the left rear tire?

hey, good one! ( EEEWWWWWW)

in my pasture it's usually horse/cow stuff.

now for the doggies.. I usually find those while on the rider lawnmower.. I'll be going along and turnmy head just in time to see a nice mound going under the deck... leaving me only nanoseconds to hold my breath :)

since we are sharing!! i was moving the trailer with the tractor. parked it in front of the garage and not remembering that i had the trailer on i dropped the box blade. i dont usually lock the ball in the yard i only have a slight slope here. oh well back to the story. dropped the blade and start to get off the tractor and hear a sliding noise. the trailer decided to park itself at the bottom of the drive. i sat back down and started chasing it trying to line up the ball on the hitch, kinda like a slow motion cop chase. it got about 50 feet as i caught it the light housing caught the chain link fence and ripped off the light and put a nice snag in the fence to remind me every time i go by to at least put chocks down before i drop the blade...still dont lock the ball tho....

Worst on for me - I was about 15 and helping a cousin on his farm in SW GA as he was harvesting his corn. Pulling two peanut trailers (half full) of corn back to his dryers behind a Allis Chalmers 7060. Clipping along pretty good and decided to take a short cut across a hay field, but didn't know and couldn't see the ditch....

When the front tires fell off in the ditch I bounced off the windshield and was thrown around like a ping pong ball as the tractor Just Kept GOING. By the time I got back in the seat and found the clutch, the second trailer was in the ditch. Said trailers were in a sad state as peanut trailer undercarriages are not meant for such abuse. Matter of fact, the axles folded right back. Big Allis didn't care overmuch, it was still headed for the barn.

Spent several days with a grain shovel emptying those trailers into two good ones. Shoveling over the side of a steel box, August, SW GA. YESSIR, it was HOT.

I really felt bad about wrecking two of my cousin's peanut trailers.

Also, without that cab, I would've been toast. Certainly would've been thrown clear and run over.

I don't remember any seatbelts or ROPS on tractors in the 70s. Certainly might've been available, tho.

We didn't wear hearing protection when shooting back then, either.

At least the crickets don't annoy me these days.

Dog turd posts reminded me of when I was a kid in the early 50s. Dad bought a brand new gas powered reel type lawn mower. I earned money with it but my shirt always had a brown stinky stripe up the front of it:licking: .

I honestly don't remember. I was about 15, (1977) and the tractor was a couple of years old. I was into guns, not tractors, at the time. :D

The nifty thing about cabs was the AIR CONDITIONING!!!!

It is only EMBARRASSING if someone embarrasses you by SEEING it and lets you know they've seen it.

Here's a dumb trick WELL worth avoiding;
Plucking out shrubs with a choker chain around them to a center hook on the FEL bucket.

If you feel a need to back up just to help it when you have run out of FEL lift - accept that wheel spin in 2WD is the limiting factor, or have a witness with camcorder running before you shove it in 4WD.
Have them post the video for you while you are in recovery.

Best choice would be a neighbor who is an EMT on their day off.

I guess I've only done one really stupid thing...was with my old 790 during the summer of 2009.
I was finish mowing the yard and stopped to pick up some branches and other small stuff. As the mower was on, I shut off the engine and left in in gear (790 is a gear tractor). Picked up the branches and carried them to where I pile that kind of thing.
Went back to start the tractor to idle it for a few minutes before I started mowing again (since I had a few more fallen branches to carry off). So, standing along side the 790, I knocked the lever into neutral...and there she went...slight slope (maybe 3-5 degrees, if that), but enough to get it rolling. My immediate thought was "Oh Sheet!!!!".
The machine rolled into a wooded section at the front of the property line and hit a small tree which, fortunately, stopped the tractor (otherwise, it would have rolled down an embankment on to the road).
Obviously, I hadn't set the parking brake.

Well, it could have been worse...I could have been run over by the rear wheels and RFM (even if not running, that would have done damage to my body). It could have rolled down that embankment into the road (which would have ruined a passing motorist's and my insurance company's days).

Gotta admit...I really felt like an idiot after that episode.

I grew up around my Dad's implement biz. We were moving to a new sales lot, and I was pulling all kinds of big implements with a small Ford tractor. One of those implements was a huge (at the time) tandem transport disc. The disc blades were only a few inches off the ground and it was a quick, but hokey set-up.

I had stopped the tractor as I dropped a pin off the tractor and onto the street....and I put the tractor in neutral with the engine running at a high idle. As I quickly dismounted the tractor, my foot caught the gear shift and it WENT INTO GEAR.....thankfully a slow one. The tractor was pushing my backside as I kept "dancing" to keep my feet out from the rolling tires and pull the gearshift into neutral again. Only lasted a second or two....and I still can't believe that I could get the tranny into gear like that....but I did (makes me wonder to this day). I never woulda outrun the disc blades coming behind me. Scared the schmidt outta me. (whew) But I lived to do more stunts. ;)

Here is my story ... I got my first tractor a few months ago :newhere:(Kubota BX 2350). The second day I had it, I decided to use my FEL to move a couple hundred pounds of cement bags to the back of my house which is down a steep incline. Like an idiot I did not put it in 4WD or use a rear weight and ended up sliding down the hill faster and faster until the hill leveled out. Scared the you-know-what out of me .

Now, I switch to 4WD whenever anything is in the FEL. I also loaded my rear tires with antifreeze since then as well.
