How long did it take you to drive up from your area? Just trying to get a idea of how long it would take for me.

Thinking ahead for next year.... the wife thought that it would be a good idea on going up to the Finger Lakes region. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hi Terry,

It took us 6 hours. We left our home at 6:40 AM and arrived at the Empire Farm Days parking lot at 12:40 PM. This included two, minor 'where are we' excursions /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif, even though I had the StreetAtlas maps. Plus we ran into some delay coming through Watkins Glen because of the traffic created by the those attending the NASCAR race. I would estimate that 5.5 hours would be the normal travel time. Going to EFD, we went up the east side of the Susequehanna River, coming back we chose the west side by picking up Rt 15 in Corning, NY which was a much more straight forward route.

I just did a StreetAtlas run for you and the Quickest route is I81 to Harrisburg, PA, US15 to Corning, NY then Rt 414 to Seneca Falls. Total time 6:23 and 293 miles. Based upon our experience, this time and mileage is pretty accurate.

If I had to do it over again, we would have arrived the night before, but my wife had to work until 8:30 Wednesday night, so leaving Thursday morning was our only option. Most of the wineries we passed don't open until noon for lunch. We didn't have time to stop on the way up and they weren't open on the way back. The Corning Glassworks would have been another nice place to tour as well as some of the other sites near Watkins Glen, but we didn't leave enough time. Next time.

I can't help but laugh... you missed the "beginning" of our TBN meet and didn't see me put the official TBN nametag on RichZ's shirt with the name of "John"... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

For some reason, nobody wanted to wear the TBN nametags that Muhammad our fearless leader (who didn't attend by the way /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif)... had made and sent... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

We all officially introduced ourselves to one another prior to you getting there... so ya missed it...

I don't know exactly what the percentage is... but I'd guesstimate New York is about 80% rural... but everyone out-of-state thinks of skyscrapers and tall buildings and Superman... when New York comes into a conversation... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

First there were the 2 Pete's to confuse, then you and RichZ. That'll teach me to get there late!

Did you and Rich attend the auction? There was a lot of traffic on Rt 414 headed for it. There seemed to be a lot of equipment still there on Friday morning as well.

You're right! I never noticed. We drove back thru Albany and right thru some wicked scary neighborhoods, though. Graffiti. Sulky teenagers. Aggressive drivers. Yuck!

But upstate was nice. We never did get used to that horizon thing. Not used to being able to see that far!

Pete, compared to where you live it may be flat around Seneca Falls (that's where Empire Farm Days was). But don't forget we have the Catskills and the Adirondacks. And a small part of the state even has the Green Mountains! I live in the foothills of the Green Mountains, and I think I live in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I may be biased, but ask others. Ask Bob Ancar, or JMIII!
