Hello everyone, thought i would share the construction of my 30' x 50' enclosed Pole barn. I wanted a shop/garage but after getting some estimates I quickly realized that it was to expensive. I also thought about building it myself via a kit but lacked the skills-tools needed to do the entire project myself. I checked into pole barn costs and found a 30' x 50' kit reasonably priced and hired out the labor to install it. I then started enclosing the pole barn in myself to save money, learning as I went, I'm no carpenter so it is far from perfect and being located in the county it required no permits or inspections. Gonna try posting some pics now and will tell a little about it as I go.

I ordered some good base to level out the spot where the pole barn was going to be located. My 4110 Mahindra 4wd tractor made this chore easier. The kit came with 6x6 posts, steel trusses, 2x6s for rafters and galvalume metal for the roof. It took about 1 day to get the 6x6s set, they came back the next day and set the trusses and rafters.

I forgot to mention the height is 10' on the eaves. If I was to do it over again I would've went higher. Now here comes the roof and my dogs decided to get in the pic also.

The concrete slab is next and was hired out also and is the highest expense of the entire project, I forget now exactly how many yards it took. I also added some J hooks to anchor my walls.

I'm starting on the back wall now, I acquired some used tin for the wall and framed in a door and two windows. This wall is non-load bearing so there was no need to overdue it on the framing of the door and windows. I also used 1x6s for the frame to attach the metal to.

Right side wall, added 2 windows here also. Bolted 2x4s to the outer truss so i could attach the metal in the gable area.

left wall was done just like the right side except no windows. This side will have a work bench down the whole wall and pegboard.

The back wall, right wall and left wall is complete now its time to put up a work bench and some peg board on the inside left wall and part of the back wall. I used 4x8 sheets of pegboard and made a frame out of 1x1 strips to attach it to. The work bench is made of landscape timbers for legs and 2x4s for frame and 3/4" plywood for top. The work bench and peg board is 36' long. I also put a large sink in the back wall work bench and started hanging a few tools on the peg board. That is my nephew in the pics, its nice to have a helper.

Nice Job. But it looks like you ended up building it yourself. Other than the cement. It always amazes me how something sounds big then put a few vehicles in it and you realize it isn't as big as you thought.

I built some shelving on the back wall to make better use of that space and my nephew is hard at it again in the pics.

The roll up doors have arrived, via semi-truck and in a 1153lb crate. The mahindra tractor gets to help get them to the pole barn.

I still have to tin the front between the roll-up doors and close in the gables with soffits. Will post new pics as I finish it. I'm very happy with it, I know it's not perfect and like I said I'm no carpenter and I saved alot of money going the pole barn route versus a traditional metal building. It didn't take long to realize I needed to go taller. Thanks for looking.......Mike

Good job Mike. I like the truss system that was used. Do you mind sharing who manufactures the kit and roughly the base price?

Interesting design. Never seen one built like that. Thanks for the photos.

Looks nice. Being in the Northeast I've never seen one put up like that. Very lightweight in construction. There are lotsa benefits to being out of snowload territory.

Hello MarkV, I got my pole barn kit from Better Built Buildings out of Chipley, Florida. The kit was $3300.00 installed, came with everything including all mounting hardware. There are several companies in the Southeast that sell these kits. The company I bought from had the best price but doesn't have a website, they advertise in our local paper. Here is one out of Georgia that sells the kits also to give you a idea of different sizes and prices, they also have a you tube video of their pole barns Armour Metals
